Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Radiation Therapist prepares and administers radiation treatments to patients as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist, in accordance with established departmental procedures and standards. The position provides clinical support to the Radiation Oncology Department. The position ensures the highest quality patient care by providing emotional support to patients and by complying with established procedures and standards. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to team work and cooperation.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
Graduate of an Accredited Radiation Therapy School required.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Radiation Therapy Technologist license by the State of New Jersey, Department of Environmental Protection required. Certification by American Registry of Radio logic Technologists required with unrestricted therapy credentials. BLS certification required.
EXPERIENCE
Must be a member of the American Society of Radio logic Technologists, continuing Education program. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Demonstrates the technical competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury. Requires the ability to position patients and utilize good body mechanics. The essential functions for this position are listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
This position reports to the Administrative Director of Radiation Oncology. The above statement reflect the general details considered necessary to describe the principle functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all work requirements that may be inherent in the position.
