Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The West Side Activities Coordinator is responsible for the development and coordination of activity programs for the West Side of Nassau County that reflects the varied interests and provides them with meaningful and life enriching activities. The Coordinator will develop programming that encompasses all facets of an individual's being: physical, social, intellectual, artistic, and spiritual. This position is also responsible for the recruitment, training and coordination of volunteer members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Activities Programming Develop and implement a comprehensive activities program to help meet the physical, social, intellectual, artistic and spiritual needs of members. Communicate, advise and inform the Program Operations Director of activity programs and upcoming events. Cultivate community resources and volunteers to schedule various activities and special events. Working with the Program Operations Director, develop a needs assessment to determine the interest in the community. Create monthly/daily activity calendar that reflects the varied interests of the community and provide them with dates, time and location of programs/activities. Maintain an adequate supply of equipment for regular activities, keeping within budgetary guidelines.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Genuine concern for and the ability to work with seniors and the community. Experience in creating and coordinating activities preferred. Ability to train, supervise and motivate people. Maintain oversight of daily activities and other projects assigned. Communication skills to perform job duties to communicate with members, staff, community residents as needed both in written and oral communication. Proficient in basic computer skills. Ability to work within the parameters of agency policies and procedures. Must be able to lift 30 lbs. to set-up and break-down tables and chairs for events. Must be able to work weekends and evenings when needed for facility rental or events.
SUPERVISION
Performs duties under the supervision of the Program Operations Manager.
WORK EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS
One (1) year experience in creating and coordinating activities for older adults. Experience working with the elderly or other vulnerable population in a customer focused environment. Must be able to pass the Level 2 background check required by DOEA. Must adhere to Drug Free Workplace standards. Must have use of personal vehicle for outreach and home visiting purposes. Must have a valid driver's license.
EDUCATION
High School graduate. Some college preferred.
PHYSICAL WORK REQUIREMENTS
Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time. Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis. Able to perform general office administrative activities: copying, filing. delivering and using the telephone. Able to lift 30 pounds.
