Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking dedicated, compassionate, and clinically skilled Registered Nurses (RN) to provide high-quality healthcare services within secure state correctional facilities in Colorado. The Correctional RN is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to an adult incarcerated population while maintaining patient safety, confidentiality, professional standards, and compliance with facility policies and applicable healthcare regulations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, the ability to remain calm in challenging situations, and a commitment to providing equitable, patient-centered healthcare in a secure environment. Coverage spans over multiple state facilities and contract workers must be flexible with shift schedule. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct nursing assessments, obtain vital signs, and evaluate patients' health status in accordance with established protocols. Provide direct nursing care, including assessment, treatment, monitoring, and follow-up of patients. Administer medications safely and accurately in accordance with provider orders, facility policies, and applicable standards of practice. Perform medication administration and related documentation using applicable electronic medication administration systems. Respond to medical emergencies and provide appropriate interventions within the RN's scope of practice. Perform triage and determine the appropriate level and urgency of care. Assess patients presenting with acute and chronic medical conditions and initiate appropriate nursing interventions. Provide wound care, treatments, injections, specimen collection, and other nursing procedures as ordered or permitted by protocol. Monitor patients with chronic medical conditions and assist with ongoing disease management. Required Qualifications Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Colorado or eligibility to practice in Colorado under applicable compact/licensure requirements. 1+ years of RN experience in the following specialties: corrections, med/surg or clinic Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved provider. Strong assessment, critical-thinking, communication, and clinical decision-making skills. Ability to work effectively in a structured and secure environment. Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality. Ability to respond appropriately to medical emergencies and behavioral-health situations. Must meet all facility-specific employment, security, credentialing, and background-check requirements. Work Environment This position is performed within a secure correctional facility . The RN will work in collaboration with custody/security personnel and other healthcare professionals. The position may involve exposure to individuals experiencing acute medical conditions, behavioral-health crises, substance withdrawal, or other challenging clinical situations. Candidates must be able to function effectively in a structured environment, follow security procedures, maintain situational awareness, and provide professional patient care under potentially stressful circumstances.
