Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Nurse Substitute to provide essential healthcare services within our educational environment. This role involves delivering prompt, professional medical care to students, and ensuring a safe and healthy school community. The substitute nurse will be responsible for managing minor injuries, administering medications, and supporting students with chronic health conditions. Responsibilities Provide immediate first aid and emergency care for students experiencing injuries or sudden illness Administer medications and treatments following prescribed protocols and school policies Assess student health needs through thorough evaluation of symptoms and vital signs Maintain accurate medical records, documentation, and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations Collaborate with school staff, parents, and healthcare providers to develop individualized health plans for students with special needs Monitor the health office environment to ensure compliance with health regulations and safety standards Educate students and staff on health topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and injury prevention Respond swiftly to medical emergencies using AED operation, CPR, and other life-saving techniques when necessary Skills Proven experience in emergency medicine, hospital medicine, or Level I/II trauma centers with trauma center experience preferred Strong knowledge of pediatrics, physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to school-aged children Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems for accurate medical documentation and record management Ability to perform venipuncture, IV insertion, medication administration, and injection procedures safely Familiarity with health regulations compliance including HIPAA and State Board of Nursing standards Excellent patient assessment skills combined with the ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff Knowledge of urgent care procedures, Geriatrics (for older students or staff), and acute care practices Skilled in manual handling techniques necessary for patient care in a school setting Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), First Aid, CPR, AED operation, and other relevant emergency response certifications required Experience working within school clinics or pediatric outpatient settings is highly desirable Join us as a School Nurse Substitute to help foster a safe learning environment where every student's health needs are prioritized.
