Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Travel Corrections Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic healthcare team for an assignment in Lansing, NY. This role involves providing specialized nursing care to patients requiring correctional health services across various correctional facilities. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of correctional health protocols, medical documentation, and a broad range of clinical skills to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the health and well-being of underserved populations while working within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment. Responsibilities Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history documentation using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. Administer medications, including injections and IV infusions, following aseptic techniques and safety protocols. Perform clinical procedures such as suturing, catheterization, ostomy care, and wound dressing changes. Manage acute and chronic conditions with expertise in pain management, infectious disease care, and trauma medicine. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans aligned with correctional health standards. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality of all patient information. Document all nursing interventions accurately in medical records and ensure proper coding using
ICD-10/ICD-9
as applicable. Provide triage services, assess urgent needs, and prioritize care delivery efficiently. Support discharge planning and coordinate follow-up care for long-term and post-acute patients. Maintain infection control standards and participate in quality improvement initiatives aligned with NCQA standards. Qualifications Valid RN license in the state of New York . Minimum of one years of clinical nursing experience in settings in correctional health environments. Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; experience with medical documentation and coding is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology. Experience working with diverse populations including individuals with disabilities, behavioral health needs. Ability to perform complex procedures such as IV insertion, ventilator management, tube feeding, and laboratory specimen collection. Excellent communication skills coupled with a proactive approach to patient care. Knowledge of Workers' Compensation law and familiarity with hospice & palliative medicine are considered assets.
