COORDINATOR OF NURSING TRAINING WILL BE PROVISIONAL BASED ON THE POSSBIILITY OF A CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION IN THE FUTURE.
Responsible for planning and overseeing a comprehensive in- service training program for professional, para-professional and non-professional nursing service personnel. The Coordinator is responsible for the orientation and continuing in-service training of these employees who include Registered Professional Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, and Household Assistants. Coordinates with other Nursing Home Supervising Staff regarding in-service training and mandatory education needs of all WCNH employees. Does related work as required. Examples of Typical Duties Plans, organizes and carries out Nursing Training Courses as mandated by the New York State Department of Health; Plans, organizes and carries out in-service training programs for nursing service personnel; as well as Certified Nursing Assistants. Provides orientation for newly hired Registered Professional Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants and Household Assistants. Obtains and cares for instructional materials; Conducts informational programs for interested groups such as student nurses and high school students; Confers with other members of the staff on problems relating to nursing services and facility education needs (Grants, Quality Assurance, etc). Attends staff meetings and serves as a resource person concerning the nursing service; Informs the Director of Nursing and supervisors of progress being made by individual employees and any problems they may be encountering; Maintains instructional records; Revises course outlines, quizzes and tests as necessary; Obtains and maintains resource material to keep the nursing staff informed about new trends in nursing; Revises the policy and procedures manual as necessary; Acts as liaison between nursing services and educational programs conducted in other institutions and by other agencies. Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics Thorough knowledge of general nursing theory and practices; good knowledge of medical materials, sanitation and personal hygiene; demonstrated ability to plan, direct, and conduct in-service nursing training programs; ability to stimulate and maintain interest in subjects taught; ability to secure the cooperation of others; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; initiative and good judgment in presenting course material and demonstrations; ability to understand and carry out technical oral and written directions; good powers of observation; mental alertness; thoroughness; patience; sympathetic attitude toward the sick; good physical condition. Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Either:
A.Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and two years of experience in professional nursing activities, one year of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching position; OR B. Graduation from an approved three year school of professional nursing and three years of experience in professional nursing activities, one year of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching position; OR C. Graduation from an regionally accredited or New York State registered two year college with an Associate degree in Nursing and four years of experience in professional nursing activities, one year of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching position; D. An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated in "A", "B" and "C".
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR ACCEPTANCE OF APPLICATIONS
Eligibility for a license issued by the State of New York to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse at time of application. Possession of the license at the time of appointment.
