Job Description

Job Title:
Part-time Registered Nurse Department:
Health Office Position Overview:
Assess student health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans and maintain student medical records.
Employment Classification:
Part time, exempt
Scheduled Days and Hours:
Weekends, or as needed
Essential Job Functions:
  • Reflect the Mission of The Gow School to students, faculty, and the community, and adhere to all company policies as listed in The Gow School Employee Handbook and Faculty Guidebook.
  • Exhibit The Gow School's core values, embodied in our Four Pillars of Kindness, Respect, Honesty and Hard Work.
  • Record all medications given out on a daily basis.
  • Prepare individual doses of medications as ordered and deliver to individual students as ordered.
  • Pre-pack individual doses of medications for all off-campus trips/athletic events/extra-curriculcular activities and provide instructions to responsible teacher/coach.
  • Perform drug testing as requested by the Dean of Students or Administrator. Deliver said results to same in a confidential manner.
  • Provide immediate care for injured/ill student or faculty/staff member.
  • Determine seriousness of illness/ injury and whether further treatment (on or off-campus) is needed.
  • In coordination with the Weekend Coordinator, arrange transportation when treatment off-campus is needed.
  • Communicate with parents regarding illness, injury, plan for care and necessary follow up.
  • Monitor and treat students with known chronic conditions. Assess trends of complaints to determine if there is an underlying chronic condition.
  • Serve as a resource for faculty/staff in regards to health information, discerning reliable sources and where to go for assistance.
  • Assess student's physical health when self-harm is suspected or identified. Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Strong clinical assessment and nursing skills.
  • Ability to safely administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, school policies, and applicable regulations.
  • Knowledge of human physiology, common adolescent health conditions, and emergency response procedures.
  • Ability to assess, prioritize, and respond effectively to student health concerns and medical emergencies.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and sound clinical judgment, with the ability to identify issues and resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, faculty, healthcare providers, and outside agencies.
  • Commitment to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA, and ethical standards.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and standard computer applications.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing as a collaborative member of the school community.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • License in registered professional nursing. Certification in CPR/First Aid.
