Registered Nurse — Geriatric / Community Living Center (Local) Fort Meade VA Medical Center, Community Living Center — | Full time, 12-14 week contract | 12-hour shifts, 36 hrs/week (3 x 12) Position Overview The Fort Meade VA Medical Center Community Living Center (CLC), is a long-term care and rehabilitation unit serving older Veterans. We are placing 5 Registered Nurses on a 12-14 week assignment to provide direct geriatric nursing care to CLC residents on 12-hour shifts. This posting is for nurses living within 50 miles of Fort Meade (Sturgis, Rapid City, Spearfish, Belle Fourche, Black Hawk/Piedmont area). No relocation needed. Key Responsibilities Provide direct nursing care to geriatric Veterans in a long-term care/skilled nursing setting, including residents with dementia, chronic disease, mobility limitations and end-of-life needs. Complete admission, shift and change-of-condition assessments; develop and update individualized care plans with the interdisciplinary team. Administer medications (oral, IV, injections, enteral) and treatments per provider orders; monitor for adverse reactions and polypharmacy concerns. Perform wound and skin care, fall-risk and pressure-injury prevention, and restorative nursing interventions. Supervise and delegate to LPNs and nursing assistants on the unit; serve as shift charge nurse when assigned. Document care accurately and timely in the VA electronic health record. Communicate changes in condition to providers and families; participate in care conferences. Respond to emergencies and follow VA infection-control, patient-safety and Veteran-centered care standards. Qualifications & Experience Current, full and unrestricted RN license in any U.S. state, territory or D.C. (VA accepts any state license). Current BLS (American Heart Association) certification. Minimum 1 year of RN experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, geriatrics, rehab or med-surg; CLC/VA experience preferred. Gerontological Nursing Certification (GERO-BC) or dementia-care training preferred. Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN, BSN or higher). Able to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays per the unit schedule.

Able to pass VA onboarding:

background investigation, PIV badging, TB screening/immunizations and drug screen. Authorized to work in the U.S. and able to meet VA facility-access requirements. Compensation

Includes the federal Service Contract Act health & welfare benefit, paid as benefits or cash in lieu. Paid federal holidays and paid sick leave (1 hour per 30 hours worked) under federal contractor rules.
