SUBSTITUTE NURSE / HEALTHCARE STAFF

Job Title:

Substitute Nurse / Healthcare Staff

Reports to: Campus Principal

As Needed / Substitute Basis

Primary Purpose

Gonzales Independent School District is seeking qualified individuals to provide substitute health services on an as-needed basis when the regular school nurse is absent or additional health support is needed.

The substitute will provide appropriate student health care and support within the scope of their education, training, certification, and/or licensure. The individual will work closely with students, parents, campus staff, and the district nurse to support a safe and healthy school environment.

Qualifications

Applicants may be considered based on their healthcare education, training, certification, licensure, and relevant experience. Qualified applicants may include individuals with:

Current Texas RN or LVN/LPN license

Current CNA certification

Medical Assistant (MA) certification or relevant medical assistant experience

Current EMT certification

Other healthcare, nursing, or medically related education, certification, training, or experience acceptable to the District

Previous experience working with children or in a school setting is preferred

Current CPR/AED certification is preferred

Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment

Ability to work effectively with students of varying ages and needs

Ability to follow district policies, procedures, and the direction of the campus nurse or administrator

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties may vary based on the individual's qualifications, certification, licensure, and the needs of the campus and may include:

Provide basic and/or nursing-related health services within the individual's authorized scope of practice.

Respond to student illnesses, injuries, and health concerns.

Administer first aid and provide appropriate emergency response.

Assist with medication administration and other student health needs as permitted by law, district policy, and the individual's credentials.

Monitor students and communicate health concerns to the appropriate campus personnel, parent/guardian, or district nurse.

Maintain appropriate student health information and confidentiality.

Complete required documentation and health records.

Follow established emergency procedures and infection-control practices.

Communicate professionally with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and healthcare personnel.

Assist the campus nurse and staff with maintaining a safe and healthy school environment.

Perform other health-related duties as assigned by the campus principal or district nurse.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform the physical requirements necessary to provide student health services, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and assisting students as needed.

Employment

Employment is as needed and on a substitute basis. Assignment and duties will be based on campus needs and the individual's qualifications, credentials, and scope of practice.
