Patient Financial Services Specialist - ON SITE

Job Description

The Patient Financial Services Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the financial aspects of patient care are managed efficiently and accurately. This position provides prompt, effective customer service to internal and external customers. The specialist demonstrates knowledge of Revenue Cycle activities including cash transactions, billing and reimbursement while assisting patients in understanding their financial responsibilities. By managing patient accounts and collaborating with internal departments, this role helps to optimize revenue cycle processes while maintaining a high level of patient satisfaction. Ultimately, the Patient Financial Services Specialist contributes to the financial health of the organization by ensuring timely and accurate collection of payments and supporting patients through complex financial interactions.

A Day in the Life ofYou begin your day reviewing patient accounts and preparing for a full schedule of meaningful interactions. Much of your time is spent speaking with patients to identify sources of payment for services, helping them understand their financial responsibilities, and clearly explaining the payment options available to them. You approach each conversation with empathy and professionalism, ensuring patients feel supported while navigating often complex financial processes.

As the day progresses, you verify insurance eligibility and benefits to confirm coverage details and prevent billing issues down the line. You work closely with medical staff to ensure billing and coding are accurate, which helps maintain compliance and supports a smooth revenue cycle. When claims are ready, you prepare, submit, and follow up on them diligently, keeping track of each step to ensure timely reimbursement.

You also spend time resolving claim denials and addressing discrepancies directly with insurance companies, advocating for accurate outcomes and correcting issues as they arise. In addition, you evaluate financial documents to determine eligibility for programs or coverage, applying relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines to each situation. For patients who need assistance managing balances, you set up and oversee payment plans that balance organizational needs with patient circumstances.

Throughout your work, you maintain detailed and accurate documentation of patient financial information, updating records regularly to ensure completeness and compliance. Confidentiality is a constant priority, and you adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations in every aspect of your role. Above all, you provide excellent customer service to patients, families, and internal departments, serving as a reliable resource and a compassionate guide.

By the end of the day, youve helped patients understand and manage their financial responsibilities, supported accurate billing and insurance processes, and contributed to the overall efficiency and integrity of the revenue cycleall while making a real difference in the patient experience.

QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED preferredMinimum of 1 year of experience with clerical, financial and/or patient accounting activities and computer operations to include Microsoft office programs and excel worksheetsStrong knowledge of medical billing procedures, insurance verifications, and healthcare regulationsProficiency with electronic Health record (EHR) systems and billing softwareExcellent communication and customer service skillsCommitment to accuracy, professionalism, and confidentialityWhy Regional West?
