Job Description

Avera Health is seeking a compassionate Nursing Assistant to support patients and clinical teams within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will provide direct patient care including vital signs, hygiene, mobility assistance, and comfort measures under nursing supervision. You will document observations, support safe transport, and help maintain a clean, healing environment. At Avera Health, you'll join a collaborative, mission-driven team focused on improving patient outcomes while growing your skills within a supportive regional health system. Responsibilities Provide basic patient care including bathing, grooming, toileting, and feeding under RN supervision Measure and record vital signs, intake/output, and patient weights accurately Assist with patient mobility, transfers, positioning, and use of assistive devices Observe and promptly report changes in patient condition to nursing staff Support patient transport to tests, procedures, and therapy sessions safely Maintain clean, safe patient rooms and work areas following infection control standards Document care provided and patient observations in the electronic health record Assist with equipment setup, supplies stocking, and room turnover Offer emotional support, empathy, and clear communication to patients and families Collaborate with nurses and interdisciplinary team members to support care plans Required Skills Basic patient care techniques (bathing, grooming, toileting, feeding) Vital signs measurement and documentation Safe patient handling and transfer techniques Infection prevention and control practices Electronic health record (EHR) data entry CPR and Basic Life Support procedures Use of wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility aids Body mechanics and fall prevention Medical terminology basics Effective patient and family communication
