Job Description

Mercy is seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will assess, treat, and care for patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary disorders, performing diagnostic tests, administering therapies, and collaborating closely with physicians and nurses. Responsibilities Assess and monitor patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions, documenting respiratory status and response to therapy. Administer prescribed respiratory treatments, including aerosol and inhalation therapies, oxygen therapy, and chest physiotherapy. Initiate, manage, and adjust invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation in collaboration with physicians and the care team. Obtain, analyze, and interpret arterial blood gases and other diagnostic data to guide treatment decisions. Perform or assist with pulmonary function testing and other respiratory-related diagnostics as needed. Respond to rapid response and code situations, providing emergency airway management and resuscitation support. Maintain, troubleshoot, and ensure proper operation of ventilators, oxygen delivery systems, and other respiratory equipment. Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the electronic medical record. Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, equipment use, inhaler techniques, and home-care instructions. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals in care planning, interdisciplinary rounds, and quality improvement initiatives. Adhere to infection prevention, safety, and regulatory standards in all aspects of respiratory care. Support training and orientation of students or new staff members as appropriate.
