(non-exempt) Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable instrumentation and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Central Sterile Technician certification preferred, or willingness to obtain within two years of employment Experience preferred, but will offer on-the-job training

Reports to Perioperative Manager and Perioperative Assistant Nurse Manager

POSITION-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Cleans and decontaminates surgical instruments and other medical equipment following Manufacturer's Instructions for use and facility policies and procedures, including following proper Standard Precautions. Inspects and verifies instrument and equipment function properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment. Assembles, packages and sterilizes medical devices following manufacture's recommendations and established procedures. Maintains and documents the decontamination/sterilization procedures to include quality assurance in the appropriate logs and books. Returns supplies and instruments after cleaning and processing to appropriate departments within the facility. Operates cleaning and sterilization equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations and facility policy and procedures. Assists in maintaining peri-operative supplies, equipment, and linen/inventory. Cleans, restocks, and checks outdates according to routine logs. Assists with the receiving and handling of loaner instrumentation from company representatives. Effectively communicates with physicians, staff, co-workers, and equipment vendors. Proficient writing skills for effective communication and accurate documentation of log and record books. Proficient in basic computer skills required for resourcing necessary guidelines and Manufacturer Instructions for Use. Ability to create and edit documents in Word and Excel. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to facilitate the functions of the department and hospital.

: Works in a well-illuminated, climate-controlled environment May come in contact with hazardous chemical or treatment modalities Possibility exists of exposure to communicable diseases Involvement in inpatient care may result in unavoidable work-related illness or injury Work environment is comfortable, with minimal exposure to physical hazards Moderate to loud noise environment when machines/equipment in use Involvement in checking in/moving of supplies may result in unavoidable work-related injury Must be constantly alert for patient/family emergency situations
