Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY
The Ultrasound Technologist/PVL Technician (Weekend) performs and assists with ultrasound and non-invasive peripheral vascular examinations and procedures under the direction of a Radiologist or delegating practitioner to produce US/PVL exams which are used in medical diagnosis. Works with leadership and radiologists to provide, enhance, and maintain high levels for image quality and patient safety. Reports to designated department leadership and functions under the supervision and guidance of a Registered PVL Technologist and/or Radiologist.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs ultrasound examinations that assist in the medical diagnosis to locate injuries, foreign bodies, pathological conditions or lesions within the body. Performs non-invasive peripheral vascular diagnostic laboratory tests and procedures following established policies, procedures, and regulations. Evaluates ultrasound and peripheral vascular images for technical quality. Provides service to support inpatient and outpatient imaging. Collaborates with Sedation and Anesthesia departments to facilitate and ensure timely placement of add-on/urgent examinations. Assists and supports new hire orientation and training. Educates patients and families. Assures customer satisfaction (interdepartmental, community and patient/family) with services. Participates in research projects. Maintains on-going quality assurance. Reviews and maintains policies and procedures. Ensures continuing educations requirements. Seeks guidance from management for unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation from financial/operational policies and standards of practice. Performs other duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
Registration or Certification as an Ultrasound Technologist by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) required. Registration or Certification as a Vascular Technologist by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) must be obtained within 18 months of hire date for new incumbents after May 1, 2021.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of ultrasound techniques/principles and procedures as well as operation and maintenance of sonographic equipment. Knowledge of PVL diagnostic tests, procedures, equipment, anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics of the arterial and venous systems. Ability to interpret and discriminate between normal and abnormal findings, diagnostic data, and report findings to provider. Analytical skills necessary to detect pathologies based on the knowledge of physiological cause/effect of diseases and clinical principles. Knowledge of computerized data retrieval systems and organization of laboratory reports, results, and quality assurance programs. Ability to analyze and problem solve independently. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with patients/families, nursing personnel, physicians and coworkers. Ability to travel to offsite locations required. CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire .
WORKING CONDITIONS
Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
