is looking to add a part time veterinarian to our busy medical team. The candidate will work directly with our Director of Operations and skilled technicians to ensure the health of our shelter animals. We currently work Tuesday-Thursday with the possibility of growth in our community outreach program. We are looking for someone who has a strong skill set in both surgery and medicine with the primary focus being small animal spays and neuters.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Perform spay and neuter surgeries on shelter animals as well as community cats and small dogs. Perform minor procedures and dentals as needed on both shelter and community animals. Work with technicians and assistants to provide care and advise treatment on any ill or injured animals. Provide intake exams on all new shelter animals and follow-up care as needed. Maintain thorough, neat, and timely medical records of all shelter animals using online software.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND
ABILITIES
) Passion for animal welfare. Possess good communication skills and computer literate. Exceptional time management skills and be a team player. Ability to remain composed and professional in busy or stressful situations. Responsible for maintaining current licensure. Graduate of an accredited school of veterinary medicine or equivalent. Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Maine in good standing and must complete all professional requirements to maintain licensure.

Potential hazards include but are not limited to: handling of sharp objects including scalpels and needles, exposure to corrosive cleaning agents or medications, exposure to feral or aggressive animals, and exposure to zoonotic diseases through the use of hypodermic needles, animal bites, scratches, airborne transmission, and physical contact.
