Standard Internship $ Paid $15.00/hr Part Time Description The Links at Heartland Crossing is a premier 18-hole golf course in the Indianapolis area, proudly recognized as Fox 59 Indy's Best Course. Beyond delivering an exceptional golfing experience, we are committed to creating meaningful opportunities—employing more than 50 individuals while helping them develop critical skills across all areas of our operations. Our leadership team brings a wealth of experience and mentorship. The course owner offers over 50 years of business expertise, providing valuable insight to interns. Our superintendent, with 15 years of turf science experience, trains and mentors interns in all aspects of agronomy. Additionally, our General Manager, a retired Marine Corps officer with more than 20 years of experience working with young people, guides interns in leadership, discipline, attention to detail, and day-to-day course operations, as well as essential life skills. Interns also benefit from working alongside experienced team members who emphasize process improvement, efficiency, and effective work habits. Using SMART goals as a foundation, our program ensures that every intern gains hands-on experience in workplace etiquette, professional communication, small team collaboration, and hospitality management. Participants will also develop skills in turf science, small construction projects, event planning, golf course operations, tee sheet management, tournament organization, and supervision—preparing them for success in both the golf industry and beyond. Responsibilities Golf course interns will fulfill a variety of essential responsibilities that contribute to the overall operation, presentation, and guest experience of the facility. These duties generally fall into three primary areas: course maintenance, golf operations, and guest services. Course Maintenance (Grounds Crew) Team members in course maintenance are responsible for preserving the quality and playability of the grounds. Their duties include mowing greens, fairways, roughs, and tee boxes; maintaining irrigation systems; raking bunkers; and repairing divots and ball marks. They also assist with turf science through fertilization and monitoring course conditions, as well as operating specialized equipment such as mowers and utility vehicles. Additional responsibilities may include landscaping and minor construction or improvement projects. Golf Operations (Pro Shop) Golf operations staff oversee the administrative and customer-facing aspects of the course. Responsibilities include managing tee times, checking in players, processing payments, and coordinating merchandise sales and equipment rentals. Staff may also assist in organizing tournaments and events, maintaining pace of play, and ensuring that all golfers receive accurate information and a high level of service. Outside Services Outside services personnel support daily course operations and enhance the golfer experience. Duties include preparing and maintaining a fleet of 90 golf carts, assisting guests with equipment, managing bag drop services, and maintaining the driving range. These employees ensure that all equipment is clean, organized, and readily available for use. They will plan, organize, and assist the management team in day to day activities. Food and Beverage Services At facilities that offer dining options, employees may be responsible for preparing and serving food and beverages, operating on-course beverage carts, maintaining cleanliness in dining areas, and providing attentive customer service. Interns will order food items, schedule deliveries, and maintain stock of all needed supplies. Professional Expectations Across all roles, golf course employees are expected to demonstrate professionalism, strong communication skills, and a commitment to customer service. They must adhere to safety standards, work collaboratively as part of a team, maintain a clean and organized environment, and assist with special events, leagues, and tournaments as needed. Qualifications At The Links at Heartland Crossing, we are committed to developing entry-level interns by providing a structured environment that emphasizes growth, mentorship, and personal accountability. Our program is designed to take individuals at the beginning of their professional journey and cultivate their potential by instilling strong work habits, discipline, and a commitment to excellence. We recognize that each intern arrives with a unique set of skills, experiences, and perspectives. Our approach focuses on identifying and strengthening those individual capabilities while introducing new competencies that support both personal and professional advancement. Through hands-on experience and guided instruction, interns are given the opportunity to build confidence, improve performance, and expand their understanding of workplace expectations. Our leadership team takes an active role in mentoring interns, providing consistent feedback, and modeling professionalism in all aspects of daily operations. Emphasis is placed on developing critical life skills such as effective communication, time management, teamwork, problem-solving, and attention to detail. Interns are also encouraged to set and achieve SMART goals, reinforcing accountability and measurable progress throughout their experience. In addition to technical and operational training, we strive to shape character and mindset. Interns learn the value of responsibility, adaptability, and perseverance—qualities that extend far beyond the workplace. By fostering a culture of respect, continuous improvement, and high standards, we aim to positively influence each individual's personal development. Upon completion of the program, interns will leave our facility better prepared to navigate the challenges of both their careers and everyday life.
