Job Description

Barista — The Rocks All Day Café About The Rocks The Rocks All Day Café is an Australian-inspired, wellness-forward specialty coffee and all-day café opening in November in Marlton, NJ. We're built on one idea, the
Equal Measure Principle:
hospitality and craft, given in equal measure, to guests and teammates alike. See the person in front of you. Meet their need — in full measure. Make one moment extraordinary. Every espresso is pulled on La Marzocco equipment. Every plate reflects an all-day, wellness-forward menu. Every interaction reflects a brand that's elevated but approachable — never stiff, never sloppy. We're a small, founder-led team (Amanda and Anders) opening this café with the intention of building something that lasts, not just a launch. The Role As a Barista at The Rocks, you're often the first hands-on moment of someone's day — the person who turns a walk-in into a regular. You'll run our bar with technical precision and warm, unhurried hospitality, working shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the front-of-house team so every guest feels seen, not processed. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes real pride in the craft of coffee and genuinely likes people. You'll be part of a small opening team shaping how The Rocks runs from day one. What You'll Do Coffee & bar craft Pull and finish every espresso beverage to our standard, working our La Marzocco equipment with consistency and care Know our coffee, food, and drink menu well enough to talk about it authentically — where it comes from, what's in it, why we chose it Balance speed and quality: move efficiently during a rush without ever letting the drink or the moment feel rushed Keep an eye on dial-in and consistency across the day as conditions shift Hospitality & service Live the Equal Measure Principle on the floor: see the person in front of you, meet their need in full measure, make the moment extraordinary Learn regulars — names, orders, the small details that make someone feel like they belong here Speak to new menu items, and the story behind The Rocks with genuine enthusiasm Notice and resolve guest concerns yourself where you can, and loop in a lead when you can't Team & operations Keep your station spotless and organized through every shift — a clean bar is part of the craft, not an afterthought Restock and reset your station and shared areas at the end of your shift so the next person starts strong Follow health, safety, and cash-handling procedures accurately and consistently Pitch in wherever the shift needs it — we're a small opening team and succeed or fail as one. What You'll Bring Required At least 1 year of barista experience, ideally in a specialty or third-wave coffee environment Comfort on a manual/volumetric espresso machine and grinder, with milk-texturing and latte art fundamentals A genuine warmth with people — you make guests and teammates feel good, not just served
Reliability:
you show up on time, communicate early if something changes, and can work a schedule that includes early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed Preferred Front-of-house or full-service hospitality experience beyond coffee (restaurant, bakery, wine/retail hospitality) Familiarity with wellness-forward or health-conscious food and beverage programs (alternative milks, functional add-ins, allergen awareness) An eye for detail and aesthetics — you notice when a drink, a table, or a shelf isn't quite right Above all: you're smart, low-ego, upbeat, and genuinely curious about the craft. You learn quickly, adapt well to a brand-new opening team finding its rhythm, and you'd rather solve a problem than point at whose job it was. What We Offer Competitive hourly pay $16 - $18 (plus tips) Hands-on training on our equipment, coffee program, and service standards — no prior third-wave experience required to grow into the role Real growth path: as one of our first hires, you're in line for shift lead and management opportunities as The Rocks grows A team that treats hospitality as a craft, not a script — you'll be trusted to use judgment, not just follow a checklist Shift meal / coffee while on shift [Benefits eligibility — e.g., health coverage for team members averaging 30+ hrs/week — to be confirmed] How to Apply Send your resume and a couple of lines on why hospitality and coffee are your thing to amanda@therockscafe.com We're building our opening team now ahead of our November training and launch in Marlton — we'd love to meet you.
Pay:
$16.00 - $18.00 per hour
