Barista Shift Lead — Empire Tea & Coffee Newport RI

• Part-time / Full-time About us Empire Tea & Coffee is a locally owned tea and coffee company built around connection, a great experience, and genuinely good coffee. We're looking for a Shift Lead who can set the tone on the floor, keep the quality high, and make both our team and our guests feel welcome. What you'll do Lead the shift: set the pace, support the baristas working with you, and keep service smooth through the rush.

Own drink quality:

diagnose and calibrate espresso, dial in grind and dose, and keep drip coffee fresh and dialed in throughout the day. Open and close the store and handle the day-to-day of running a shift well. Deliver exceptional customer service, and step in to make it right when something goes sideways. Share what you know about coffee with staff and guests in a warm, approachable, never-overbearing way. We want people to leave curious, not lectured. Keep the space clean, stocked, and running to standard. What we're looking for At least 1 year of experience in a café, coffee, or fast-paced customer-service setting. Comfortable leading a shift and keeping a team on track. Able to diagnose and calibrate espresso and drip coffee: taste it, spot what's off, and fix it. Strong customer-service instincts and a calm, positive presence under pressure. Genuine passion for coffee, shared with kindness rather than ego. Pay and benefits $19 per hour base, plus tips. Tips typically bring total pay to about $26 to $31 an hour, and vary by season.
