Job Description

About Charterhouse Charterhouse Cigar & Barrel is a premium cigar shop, whiskey bar, lounge, and event space in Fort Mill, SC. The room moves. The energy is good. It is not a wild, high-volume shot bar. Guests come here to sit, talk, smoke, drink well, and stay a while. Conversations at the bar are part of the job — not an extra. The role We are hiring Bar Professionals. This is more than pouring drinks. You will run a proper bar: mixology with intention, a working knowledge of spirits (especially whiskey), and the ability to use that knowledge to guide a guest toward a better pour, a better pairing, and a better ticket. If your idea of bartending is speed-pouring and moving on, this is not the seat. What you'll do Build and serve classic cocktails, house drinks, beer, wine, and spirits with consistency Know whiskey well enough to talk about it, recommend it, and sell it with confidence Keep learning — not for trivia, but so you can upsell from knowledge instead of pressure Talk to guests. Read the room. Make the bar feel like a conversation, not a transaction Speak intelligently about pairings (whiskey, cocktails, and cigars) Keep the bar clean, stocked, organized, and ready Support tastings, events, and private gatherings Check IDs and follow South Carolina alcohol laws without exception Represent the room like a professional, even when it gets busy Who we're looking for Mixology proficiency: classics first, creativity with purpose At least a solid working knowledge of spirits, with whiskey as a focus A real desire to get sharper — because knowledge is how you take care of the guest and the bar Strong conversation skills; hospitality that isn't scripted Composed when volume picks up; not rattled, not sloppy Reliable, on time, and accountable 21 or older Prior bar experience preferred. The right person with hunger and fundamentals can still be the right hire. Not a fit if You want a nightclub or heavy-volume pour house You treat guests like tickets You have no interest in whiskey, spirits, or getting better at the craft To apply Send a short note with your experience and why this bar, not just any bar. Tell us what you actually know about whiskey and how you work a conversation at the rail.
