Kitchen Helper / Food Preparation Associate The Highland Room Café & Bar - Highland Park, MI Job Summary The Highland Room Café & Bar is looking for a reliable, hardworking, and experienced Kitchen Helper / Food Preparation Associate to join our team. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a kitchen, restaurant, café, catering, or food-service environment and be comfortable assisting with a variety of food preparation and kitchen tasks. Food will primarily be outsourced from outside vendors and caterers. This position will assist with receiving food, basic preparation, portioning, plating, setup, organization, cleaning, and other kitchen-related duties as needed. We are looking for someone who is flexible, dependable, hands-on, and willing to help with whatever is needed to keep the kitchen and food-service area clean, organized, and running smoothly. Duties & Responsibilities Receive and organize food and supplies from outside vendors and caterers. Assist with basic food preparation, portioning, plating, and presentation. Set up food and serving areas for customers and events. Assist with preparing outsourced food for service. Properly store, label, and organize food and supplies. Keep food preparation and kitchen areas clean and organized. Wash dishes, utensils, trays, and other items as needed. Clean counters, work areas, floors, refrigerators, and other kitchen areas. Assist with stocking and organizing food and kitchen supplies. Help with deliveries and moving supplies when needed. Assist outside caterers and food vendors when necessary. Follow proper food safety, sanitation, and food-handling procedures. Help with setup, cleanup, and breakdown of food-service areas. Assist with miscellaneous kitchen tasks and other duties as needed. Be flexible and willing to take on different responsibilities based on daily needs. Maintain a professional, positive, and team-oriented attitude. Experience & Qualifications Previous experience as a Kitchen Helper, Kitchen Assistant, Food Prep Worker, Catering Assistant, Restaurant Worker, or similar position is required. Previous hands-on kitchen or food-service experience. Basic knowledge of food preparation, handling, storage, and sanitation. Able to follow instructions and work independently when needed. Reliable, punctual, hardworking, and dependable. Strong attention to cleanliness and organization. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Good teamwork and communication skills. Willingness to perform miscellaneous tasks and assist wherever needed. Valid ServSafe certification is a plus.
