Job Summary:
The Food Assistant supports the Senior Lunch Program by assisting with meal preparation, service, and clean-up. This role ensures food safety standards are followed and provides a welcoming and supportive environment for senior participants.
Duties:
Responsible for meal service setup, beverage preparation, serving of meals, and cleanup. Receive and properly store meals from the caterer, documenting food temperatures. Serve meals in accordance with food safety guidelines. Assist in checking in of participants and collecting of fees when needed. Participate in and/or support site activities after all core duties are completed. Attend staff meetings as requested.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required Previous work experience in cooking and food preparation preferred ServSafe Certification required (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire) CPR/First Aid Certification preferred Good verbal and written communication skills Interest in and desire to work with the elderly and disabled Ability to work with coworkers, clients and other contacts in a professional and positive manner Must pass a national background check

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Working Conditions :
Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying of supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs, with assistance and safety equipment. Regular exposure to hot surfaces, sharp objects, and cleaning chemicals is expected. Adherence to food safety and sanitation standards is required at all times. Work hours may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate meal preparation schedules and special events. Noise level in the work environment can be moderate to high during peak meal service times. Involves interaction with staff, volunteers, and program participants and requires the ability to maintain a calm, service-oriented demeanor in a fast-paced environment. Occasional travel between sites or to local vendors may be required.
Pay:
$16.00 - $18.00 per hour Expected hours: 4.0 per week
