The Columbus School District has a part time Food Service position open. Our District's mission, in partnership with the community, is dedicated to creating students to be community, career, and college ready. Columbus is located on the Crawfish River, just 25 minutes northeast of Madison.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Use dishwasher and other equipment in a safe manner. Inspect equipment for cleanliness and functional operation.
Serve food following sanitary guidelines.
Clean equipment and kitchen areas as directed.
Prepare, serve, and assist with storing and inventorying of food products.
Proof of being free of communicable disease by filing of report of examination by a licensed medical physician.
Perform cooking duties with other workers.
Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
Ability to read and write.
Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
Ability to lead and train staff and/or students.
Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
Knowledge of food service lines set-up and temperature requirements.
Skill in cooking and preparing a variety of foods.
Knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality standards.
Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Currently manages and leads the food service kitchen at the Columbus Elementary school.
Plans, builds, and develops menus.
Orders participating healthy food items for the Columbus Elementary School from our current vendor and from USDA.
Safely makes modifications to the menus to accommodate children with various allergies.
Safely cooks and serves food according to the health and safety codes associated with the local health department and DPI.
Maintains production records and SOP records to meet current DPI meal and safety standards.
Maintains a healthy, sanitary, and safe environment for students and co-workers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION
Lifting, pulling, or pushing 50 lbs. (from floor to waist), lifting 10 lbs. from waist to overhead.
Refrigeration unit, freezer, dishwasher, can opener, slicer, mixer, steamer, cooker.
Qualifications 1. High School diploma or equivalent. 2. Experience in large quantity food service or culinary training preferred. 3. Demonstrates aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities. 4. Ability to work with staff and students. 5. Ability to job coach best industry practices to coworkers. 6. Ability to monitor the work environment while completing own job duties. 7. Ability to best use kitchen communication tools to complete daily tasks. 8. Willingness to obtain a ServeSafe Certification within 1 year of start date.
EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/EXPERIENCE NEEDED
Knowledge of food service activities.
Experience in a food service operation.
ServSafe Certification required beginning January 1, 2011.
Can follow menu directions.
Knowledge of weights and measures.
Knows how to use product substitutions for menu items.
Driver's license is desirable.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or illegal substance in the workplace in compliance with District Policy & Regulation 3122 throughout his/her employment in the District.
Staff member shall serve as a positive role model.
Pay:
$16.00 - $23.00 per hour
