Guest & Safety Advocate The City of Champaign Township works to provide essential services with compassion to the community through programs in a fair, equitable and responsive manner. We are seeking a dependable, efficient & proactive employee to assume the position of
Guest & Safety Advocate Schedule:
Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday 11 pm to 7 pm (Tuesday and Wednesday off) Position Summary The Guest & Safety Advocate serves as the first point of contact for individuals accessing services at Strides. This role provides customer service, ensures safety across the shelter campus, supports staff, de-escalates conflicts, and helps connect guests to services. This position reports to the Program Director. Key Responsibilities Customer Service Monitor Operations Calendar daily to become familiar with events, programs, services, and visitors Greet and engage with guests, community members, service providers and building visitors Handle incoming calls, record call details and notify designated personnel as needed Assist & escort guests, as needed (laundry runs; locked storage; fridge access; contraband, etc.) Report timely and appropriate guest-related concerns & updates to case managers. Support directors with scheduling, orienting and overseeing volunteer programs Abide by and enforce shelter policies and procedures Manage donations including washing, storing, and documenting according to policy and food safety Screen guests for needs and provide connection to community resources Safety & Building Management Patrol all areas of the shelter campus, inside & out, to ensure a safe environment. Respond to incidents and utilize de-escalation and/or redirection with a trauma informed approach Complete safety checks which include use of a security wand and search of personal items and bags Ensure client is not a risk to themselves or others and work with staff to determine next steps if danger is present Discharge/direct guests off shelter campus if necessary. Involve police when skill set is not able to assist guest. Communicate using walkies, communication log, TEAMS and email Enforce breaks, service pauses, sanctions, and trespass Restock supplies for guests and staff, report to directors when low[CZ1] Distribute donated food by restocking trays & display cases and move non-food donations to Donation Center Ensure guest and staff areas remain sanitized, organized, labeled and tidy. [JH2] Discard trash from shelter campus Ensure Bed List Workbook is documented accurately with guest information Ensure client documents and spreadsheet data are uploaded to the appropriate folder on Strides' Site Record guests who are turned away and review entries for day sleepers File all relevant paperwork by the end of your shift & shred unnecessary documents Complete communication log to update and prepare the next shift's team Log day service data in spreadsheet Complete and store incident reports as set by procedures File all relevant paperwork by the end of your shift & shred unnecessary documents Support guests, visitors, Directors and other staff as needed Utilize Microsoft Teams & Outlook to notify other employees when in/out/unavailable Required Meetings Monthly All-Staff Meetings for Strides (Township office) Monthly one-on-one meeting with Supervisor Qualifications At least 2 years of customer service experience Preferred at least 1 year of security experience Proficiency in Microsoft office programs Active certifications or willing to be trained for: o CPR & First Aid Certified o Mental Health First Aid Certified o Narcan administration o Trauma Informed Care o Crisis response and deescalation Special Skills & Knowledge Strong technical aptitude Excellent communication and customer service skills Experience working with underrepresented and vulnerable populations and demonstrated ability to quickly build working relationships. Able to accept and act on constructive feedback regarding job duties Able to maintain professionalism and separate personal emotions from professional duties Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively Adhere to the confidentiality policy Strong organizational skills Be comfortable interacting with various groups of populations that can include, but is not limited to, EMS, police, other organizations, and those guests we serve directly Benefits Worked Holidays are paid at double time IMRF Pension Health Insurance paid for by employer (added cost for spouse and dependents) Dental and Vision Insurance (optional, paid by employee) Basic Life Insurance policy paid by employer (Optional Add Ons) Paid time off Employee Assistance Program available for use Available Full-Time Schedules Weekends are a must 40 hours per week 8 hour shifts available Compensation Range of $17.00 to $22.00 hourly
