Visitor Engagement Associate Madison Museum of Contemporary Art - 4.0 Madison, WI Job Details Part-time $18 - $20 an hour 9 hours ago Qualifications Computer operation Customer communication Teamwork High school diploma or GED Payment Processing Systems Attention to detail Cleaning Computer skills Full Job Description The Visitor Experience Associate serves as one of the first points of contact for visitors at MMoCA and plays an important role in creating a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging Museum experience. This position provides excellent customer service, assists visitors with questions and Museum information, and supports the smooth operation of the Museum's front desk and visitor services functions. The Visitor Experience Associate helps ensure that visitors feel informed, welcomed, and supported throughout their visit while contributing to a positive and professional environment for all Museum guests. MMoCA views visitor engagement as an ongoing relationship that begins by inviting visitors in, creating meaningful experiences, encouraging participation, and inspiring them to contribute to the Museum's community and mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Visitor Experience Welcome and engage visitors in a warm, professional, and approachable manner. Orient visitors to exhibitions, programs, facilities, accessibility resources, and Museum policies. Answer questions accurately and seek assistance when needed. Read visitor cues and adjust interactions to each visitor's needs and preferences. Help visitors connect with exhibitions, artists, programs, events, and other opportunities at MMoCA. Provide accurate, helpful information to visitors and seek assistance when questions fall outside the scope of the position. Read visitor cues and adapt interactions to meet each visitor's individual needs, interests, and preferences. Help visitors discover and connect with MMoCA's exhibitions, artists, programs, events, memberships, and other opportunities to engage with the Museum. Create an inclusive environment where visitors feel welcomed, respected, and connected. Front Desk Operations Process admissions, tickets, reservations, memberships, donations, and other transactions accurately. Assist visitors with onsite and online ticketing and registration. Scan tickets and reservations and assist with program and event check-in. Use Altru, XTrulink, payment systems, and other Museum technology effectively and accurately Maintain accurate constituent and transaction records while protecting visitor and donor privacy. Keep the front desk and surrounding visitor areas clean, organized, and welcoming. Review the daily Museum schedule and operational updates at the beginning of each shift. Membership & Engagement Maintain a strong working knowledge of MMoCA membership, member benefits, events, programs, and opportunities to support the Museum. Share information about membership and ways to support MMoCA in a natural, welcoming, and accurate manner when relevant to a visitor's interests or experience. Recognize and thank members and donors, helping them feel valued and connected to the Museum. Make warm and appropriate handoffs to Development or other Museum staff when a visitor expresses interest in membership, giving, or other opportunities for deeper engagement. Problem-Solving & Teamwork Listen attentively and respond to visitor questions, concerns, and feedback with professionalism, patience, and respect. Resolve routine visitor issues within established training and authority, and recognize when a situation should be escalated to a supervisor or appropriate staff member. Follow all Museum safety, emergency, security, and incident-reporting procedures. Work collaboratively with Visitor Experience, Development, Curatorial, Education, Events, and other Museum staff to provide a consistent and positive visitor experience. Participate in ongoing training, coaching, team meetings, and professional development opportunities to strengthen knowledge and skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
(EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES)
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent. Strong communication, interpersonal, and active-listening skills. Commitment to excellent hospitality and visitor service. Ability to interact warmly, respectfully, and professionally with people from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain accuracy in a busy environment. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy public-facing environment. Dependability, punctuality, and willingness to work collaboratively. Comfort learning computer-based ticketing, payment, and constituent-management systems.
Preferred:
Experience in customer service, hospitality, museums, arts organizations, retail, restaurants, events, nonprofits, or another public-facing environment. Experience with ticketing, point-of-sale, CRM, or constituent-management systems. Interest in contemporary art, museums, culture, community engagement, or nonprofit work. Museum or arts experience is helpful but not required. We value a welcoming attitude, curiosity, reliability, and a genuine interest in creating positive experiences for visitors.

  • Primarily perform work in a museum environment
  • Access or use computers or tablets, POS software, and any pertinent supplies, space, or equipment used to perform the duties of the position
  • Sit for long periods of time
  • Lift/move up to 10 pounds
  • Travel occasionally for events, meetings, etc.

$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
