Non-Exempt PURPOSE:
The purpose of this job description is to establish and define the duties, responsibilities, authority and reporting relationship of the Cook position.
POSITION TYPE
Days, Hours and Overtime vary depending on location.
POSITION SUMMARY
:
  • Provide quality meals for the residents, including special diets.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
of the Cook
  • Prepare and cook meals and snacks for residents according to pre-established menus, and in compliance with any special dietary needs of the residents.
  • Providing three (3) balanced meals daily, as well as scheduled snacks, and assuring for the provision of any resident's special dietary needs.
  • Keep the kitchen clean and orderly, including cleaning pots, pans, dishes and eating utensils after each meal.
  • Perform special weekly cleaning projects as scheduled.
  • Taking inventory of supplies, unpacking food deliveries, and maintenance of the pantry, in compliance with licensing regulation requirements.
  • Always maintains sanitation and cleanliness in the food preparation areas and observes personal hygiene and food services sanitation practices to protect from food contamination.
  • Must be knowledgeable and keep the kitchen in compliance with, Sec 87576 of Title 22, as well as any other health and safety requirements.
  • Attend any staff meetings or in service training, as required.
  • Work cooking shifts as scheduled or needed.
  • Assist with serving food as needed and bake cakes, cookies, pies, etc.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
: Completes and follows in house safety program and ensures compliance with all safety laws (i.e. OSHA, Title 22, Fire Authority, etc.) Understands and promotes the community's fire and accident prevention, sanitation procedures, and use of fire safety equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.
MEASUREMENTS OF PERFORMANCE
The Cook follows their scheduled shifts and prepares good tasting meals according to the recipes.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
    Preferred:
    Coursework in Culinary Studies or food preparation. RCFE experience a PLUS!
      Preferred:
      Previous experience cooking professionally and be able to use English well enough to communicate to clients and emergency personnel.
      REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS & AUTHORITY
      • Will report directly to the Lead Cook, Administrator or Assistant Administrator. In the absence of the above, will defer to the Shift Manager.
      • Generally will not have any subordinates, unless a kitchen aide is on duty.
      • Cook has authority to perform job duties and direct the kitchen aide.
      WORK ENVIRONMENT
      Work is completed indoors. The environment can be fast-paced and the noise level may vary from quiet to moderately loud depending on various factors. The role may involve working on weekends, holidays, overtime or during emergencies based on resident needs and shift schedules.
      PHYSICAL DEMANDS
      Ability to stand and walk for extended periods for the majority of the shift. Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and crouching to access supplies. The ability to lift up to 50lbs.
      QUALIFICATIONS
      :
      • Each employee must have a physical examination and tuberculin test performed by a physician. The tests are to be completed (with results) within seven (7) days after hire (unless regulations stipulate completion before employment.) If the exams are not completed within this time, the employee will be placed on suspension until they are completed.
      • The Department of Social Services (DSS) licensing agency requires that fingerprint cards and an affidavit on criminal convictions be submitted for the purpose of conducting a criminal record review. The DSS will issue an approval or denial according to the criminal clearance reports. An approval must be obtained in order to retain employment
      • Willing to submit to any drug screening as requested or required.
      • All employees must keep their
      FIRST-AID
      certification current.
      • The person selected for this position must be eighteen (18) years or older.
      Skills:
      Food preparation and appropriate food storage. The ability to prepare large amounts of food at one time.
        Organizational Skills:
        Must be able to maintain order and efficiency and keep the kitchen clean and organized.
          Mental:
          Must be able to handle stress well, stay calm under pressure; Ability to think and make decisions consistent with policies and procedures and licensing regulations.
