Job Description

Position Summary This is a part time, benefit eligible position with the Jackson County Department on Aging on Lansing Ave., Jackson, MI. Schedule consists of Monday through Thursday, 5 am to 11 am and Fridays 5 am to 10 am. No evenings, weekends, or holidays! RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares, portions and packs meals for distribution to clients of the Aging Department. Reviews menu plans, plans cooking schedules, and prepares and/or serves a variety of hot and cold meals and special dietary items according to menu plans. Performs preliminary food preparation activities, cooks main courses, prepares salads, sandwiches, fruit, and other items, bakes cookies, brownies, cakes, and other snacks and desserts. Maintains sanitary and orderly cooking conditions by ensuring the proper cleaning of meal preparation areas, cooking utensils, dishes, appliances, food storage areas and floors. May be asked to interact with the public in a dining or take-out setting through serving food and handling transactions related to food acquisition.
QUALIFICATIONS
One year experience cooking for large groups. Good team and organizational skills, initiative, follow-through and flexibility in day-to-day work duties. Ability to lift and move containers of food weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to understand recipe conversion in order to prepare the number of meals required each day. Ability to operate specialized equipment including mixers, steamers, ovens, tray machines, slicers and dish machine.
Education:
High school graduation or its equivalent. Must pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
