12:00 PM-8:00 PM, with some flexibility required Position Summary The JCC of Greater New Haven is seeking an energetic and dependable Assistant Aquatics Director to support the daily operations and continued growth of our year-round aquatics program. Our aquatics department serves members, children, adults, families, and a developmental swim team through recreational swimming, swim lessons, water fitness, and other aquatic programming. The Assistant Aquatics Director works closely with the Aquatics Director to oversee staff, coordinate programming and scheduling, maintain a safe and welcoming pool environment, and ensure high-quality experiences for participants. This is a hands-on position that includes administrative responsibilities as well as lifeguarding, teaching swim lessons, and coaching. There is potential for growth within the aquatics department for the right candidate. Essential Responsibilities Coordinate and maintain schedules for lifeguards and swim instructors, including arranging coverage as needed. Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, supervising, and evaluating aquatics staff. Monitor staff certifications and ensure required credentials remain current. Manage swim lesson evaluations, swimmer placements, registrations, and scheduling. Maintain and coordinate the private swim lesson schedule and participant database. Teach children's group and private swim lessons. Teach adult swim lessons as needed. Coach the developmental swim team and assist with practices, meets, scheduling, and other team needs. Serve as a lifeguard and provide pool coverage as needed. Develop, implement, and support engaging aquatic programs for members and guests of all ages. Build positive relationships with members, parents, children, program participants, and staff. Maintain accurate pool records, including chemical, maintenance, safety, and operational logs. Assist with monitoring pool cleanliness, water chemistry, equipment, and overall facility conditions. Help ensure compliance with applicable health, safety, licensing, and certification requirements. Monitor and maintain aquatics equipment and supply inventory. Coordinate with other JCC departments regarding pool schedules, programs, events, and facility needs. Communicate regularly with the Marketing Department regarding pool schedules, swim programs, special events, closures, and other aquatics-related communications. Assist with aquatic and safety certification training as needed. Support fundraising initiatives, special events, and organization-wide programs. Attend required staff and departmental meetings. Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as directed by the Aquatics Director. Qualifications Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, including CPR/AED and First Aid, required. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification preferred. Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification preferred. Previous experience in aquatics, swim instruction, lifeguarding, or related programming required. Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Strong organizational, scheduling, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively with children, adults, families, and staff. Dependable, flexible, and comfortable balancing administrative responsibilities with hands-on pool duties. Ability to work afternoons and evenings, with flexibility for occasional mornings, weekends, swim meets, special events, and other program needs. Compensation & Schedule This is a full-time position with an annual salary range of $40,000-$45,000 , commensurate with experience and qualifications. The typical schedule is 12:00 PM-8:00 PM , with flexibility based on program needs, staffing coverage, swim meets, special events, and other aquatics activities.
