Job Description

Assistant Director - MVSD Wanderers Theater Collective The MVSD After School Program is seeking a creative and energetic Assistant Director to join our Performing Arts team! The MVSD Wanderers Theater Collective is a traveling performing arts program operating under the MVSD Valley School District that rotates among school sites across Swanton, Highgate, and Franklin each session. Working closely with the Wanderers Director, the Assistant Director helps facilitate performing arts sessions, supports rehearsal and production activities, assists with program logistics, and leads creative workshops for participating youth. Key Responsibilities

    Instruction & Student Engagement:

    ○ Lead group activities, drama exercises, improvisation games, and creative workshops to foster teamwork, self-expression, and social-emotional development. ○ Create a positive, supportive, and inclusive environment for all participating students. ○ Maintain target student-to-staff supervision ratios and ensure student safety during all program activities.

      Rehearsal & Director Support:

      ○ Assist the Program Director during rehearsals, audition periods, and group activities. ○ Support cast management and lead smaller group or ensemble practice sessions as needed. ○ Step in to lead scheduled sessions in the event of Director absences.

        Program Logistics & Production Support:

        ○ Assist with administrative and pre-production tasks, including registration processing, site coordination, and family communications. ○ Support site setup, rehearsal space preparation, and event logistics across district school sites. ○ Assist with student supervision, backstage coordination, and event execution during final showcase performances.

          Session Structure:

          ○

          School Year:

          Two 15-week session blocks aligning with the district calendar (

          Fall:

          August-December;

          Spring:

          January-May). Direct program sessions run after school from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM, with remaining hours allocated to planning, site preparation, and coordination. ○

          Summer:

          Multi-week seasonal summer sessions.

          Employment Requirements & Qualifications School District Employment Requirements:
          • Must successfully clear standard MVSD Valley School District background checks and fingerprinting.
          • Compliance with district employment standards and student safety policies.
          Position Requirements:
          • Available in person during after-school program hours (3:00 PM - 5:00 PM) and scheduled summer program blocks.
          • Ability to supervise, mentor, and engage elementary and middle school youth.
          • Reliable transportation to travel to rotating school site locations within the MVSD district.
          Preferred Qualifications:
          • Experience in theatre, acting, directing, improvisation, or youth drama instruction.
          • Background in education, childcare, or youth development.
          • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
          Pay:

          $25.00 per hour Expected hours: 10.0 - 20.0 per week
