JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the Recreation Assistant
•Special Events provides general assistance and support to assigned park and recreation events, projects, and activities, promoting programs and services, and encourages participation from citizens. Assists in coordinating recreation, senior and aquatic special events and produces general marketing materials as needed.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in coordinating the special events for recreation, senior and aquatics to include scheduling vendors, securing contracts, submitting payment requests and generally enhancing special event marketing.
Assists with generating marketing and promotion materials for recreation, senior and aquatic special events.
Monitors the City website to ensure departmental information is accurate and timely, answers questions and provides information to the public regarding activities, events, and programs.
Routinely assesses divisional special events and provides suggestions to improve special event execution, organization, planning and procedures. Responsible for creation of special event guides to streamline event processes.
Prepares and promotes center events and services through various media sources.
Assists with special projects and performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Position may require evening and/or weekend work.
Knowledge of public relations principles and practices.
Knowledge of Rectrac or similar software preferred.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the general public in the course of work and to work as a part of a team.
Utilizes given resources to the benefit of participants.
Knowledge of procedures and methods related to a variety of recreational, social, cultural and related special events and activities.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, be punctual, and maintain regular attendance in order to accomplish assigned tasks.
Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with staff, guests, and vendors.
Ability to operate a computer, printer, copy machine, fitness equipment, telephones, etc.
Ability to drive a city vehicle, including vans and trucks.
Skill in the use of work computer, including Microsoft Office, or similar word processing programs, email, and the internet.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
High school education or equivalent plus three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in event planning is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Must be 18 years old. Must possess a valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record. Availability to work extended hours to include evenings and/or weekends is a must.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Able to carry/lift up to 55 pounds, push/pull up to 75 pounds, and grip 25 pounds. Able to bend, stretch, and twist. Able to climb multiple flights of stairs on a daily basis and walk frequently. Ability to stand, kneel, or sit for extended periods of time in various extreme temperatures.
