Our motto, "Drink Beer. Do Good." , reflects the company we've worked to build: make exceptional beer, take care of people, and use our business as a force for good in our community. Our Corrales campus is home to our production brewery and taproom, producing approximately 10,000 barrels annually , with distribution throughout New Mexico and beer supporting our Ex Novo locations in Corrales and Albuquerque. We're looking for an experienced brewer and leader to take ownership of our brewing program and, just as importantly, continue building a strong, accountable, collaborative production team. The Role The Head Brewer oversees Ex Novo's brewery production operation and reports directly to the Owner. This role provides leadership across brewing, cellar, and packaging, with the Packaging Manager directly reporting to the Head Brewer and overseeing the day-to-day work of the packaging team. This is both a leadership position and a hands-on brewing position . The Head Brewer is responsible for creating clear expectations, developing the people around them, holding the team accountable, and building systems that allow the brewery to operate successfully without requiring one person to carry the entire operation. At the same time, we want our Head Brewer connected to the actual work. This person should expect to regularly participate in brew days and cellar operations alongside the team. The Head Brewer also serves as the primary operational leader for the production facility, helping coordinate production flow, equipment needs, maintenance priorities, safety, quality, and communication across the brewery. The right candidate will bring technical brewing expertise, strong production-planning skills, operational awareness, and the ability to coach and lead people with clarity and consistency. Primary ResponsibilitiesBrewing & Production Oversee brewing and cellar operations for an approximately 10,000-barrel annual production brewery. Provide overall leadership and coordination across brewing, cellar, and packaging operations. Develop and manage brewing schedules based on inventory, sales forecasts, distribution needs, taproom demand, packaging capacity, and upcoming releases. Regularly participate in brew days and remain actively connected to day-to-day production. Maintain consistency, quality, and adherence to established recipes and processes. Collaborate on recipe development, seasonal releases, new products, and continuous improvement of existing beers. Monitor raw-material needs and manage ingredient ordering and inventory. Maintain accurate production records and ensure brewery processes are properly documented. Coordinate tank utilization, production flow, packaging schedules, and finished beer needs. Help identify and prioritize equipment, maintenance, and facility needs that impact production. Work collaboratively with Quality Control, Packaging, Sales, and company leadership to maintain an efficient production pipeline. Maintain a safe, organized, clean, and efficient production environment. Team Leadership The Head Brewer directly manages Ex Novo's brewing and cellar team and provides leadership to the Packaging Manager, who oversees the packaging team.
This includes:
Establishing clear roles, responsibilities, and expectations throughout the production team. Providing direction, support, and accountability to the Packaging Manager in leading packaging operations. Building a culture of ownership in which employees understand what they are responsible for and are accountable for completing it. Providing regular coaching, feedback, training, and development. Addressing attendance, performance, communication, and conduct concerns promptly and consistently. Developing team members' technical knowledge and creating opportunities for professional growth. Conducting regular check-ins and performance conversations. Working with HR and company leadership when additional coaching or corrective action is necessary. Creating a workplace where high standards and respect for one another exist together. We are looking for someone who can build a team—not simply carry one. Production & Facility Leadership The Head Brewer serves as a central leader within Ex Novo's production facility and is responsible for ensuring that brewing, cellar, and packaging operations function as one coordinated production team. The Packaging Manager reports directly to the Head Brewer and manages the day-to-day packaging operation and packaging employees. The Head Brewer is responsible for ensuring alignment between brewing and packaging priorities, production schedules, tank availability, staffing needs, and finished beer requirements. The Head Brewer also collaborates closely with Ex Novo's experienced Quality leadership on equipment performance, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, quality standards, facility needs, and continuous improvement. This position does not need to personally solve every mechanical, technical, or production problem. It does need to ensure those problems are identified, communicated, assigned, and followed through to resolution. Success in this role requires strong communication across departments, operational awareness, and the ability to both contribute expertise and utilize the expertise of the people around them. What We're Looking For Our ideal candidate has: Significant professional brewing experience, preferably in a production brewery. Strong understanding of brewing science, fermentation, cellar operations, sanitation, quality control, and production planning. Previous experience leading, supervising, or developing a brewing or production team. Experience coordinating multiple areas of brewery production, including brewing, cellar, and packaging. Demonstrated ability to establish expectations and hold employees accountable. Strong organizational and production-planning skills. Experience managing raw materials, inventory, and production schedules. Working knowledge of brewery equipment, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and production-facility operations. Ability to troubleshoot production issues and make sound decisions under pressure. Strong written and verbal communication skills. A collaborative leadership style and willingness to work across departments. A desire to remain hands-on and connected to brewing while also leading the larger production operation. Previous Head Brewer experience is valuable, but we are also interested in experienced production brewers or brewing leaders who are ready to take the next step and can demonstrate the leadership skills necessary to build and develop a team.

If you're an experienced brewer who wants to make excellent beer, develop people, and help lead the next chapter of Ex Novo Brewing Company, we'd love to hear from you.
