Job Description

Maître D - Grille Room The Golf Club at Turner Hill is seeking a polished, welcoming, and highly organized Maître D to oversee the front-of-house experience in our Grille Room. This position is the primary point of contact for members and guests and plays a key role in creating an exceptional dining experience from arrival through departure. The ideal candidate is confident, personable, and comfortable leading the dining room during busy service periods. The Maître D works closely with servers, bartenders, kitchen staff, and management to ensure smooth service, effective communication, and a consistently high standard of hospitality. What You'll Do Welcome members and guests warmly and professionally upon arrival. Create a polished, attentive, and welcoming dining environment. Build positive relationships with members and their guests. Manage daily reservations, seating assignments, and the dining room flow. Maintain an accurate seating chart and coordinate table availability with the service team. Balance reservations, walk-ins, member preferences, and special requests. Communicate reservation changes, cancellations, celebrations, and special requests to the appropriate team members. Ensure tables are properly prepared and ready before guests are seated. Maintain a strong presence on the dining room floor throughout service. Monitor cleanliness, presentation, service standards, and overall guest experience. Assist servers and bartenders during busy periods as needed. Coordinate with the kitchen regarding seating flow, large parties, special requests, and service timing. Help manage the pace of the dining room to support efficient service. Address member and guest concerns promptly and professionally, involving management when appropriate. Help ensure club policies, service standards, dress code, and other expectations are consistently followed. Assist with coordinating front-of-house staff during service. Communicate important reservations, member preferences, events, and service concerns to the team. Support training and onboarding of new front-of-house employees. Lead by example through professionalism, punctuality, communication, and a positive attitude. Maintain knowledge of the Grille Room menu, beverage offerings, events, reservations, and club policies. Assist with opening and closing duties and other responsibilities as assigned. What We're Looking For Previous experience as a Maître D, Host/Hostess, Restaurant Manager, Lead Server, or similar front-of-house position preferred. Experience in a private club, fine dining, or upscale restaurant environment strongly preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Ability to remain calm, professional, and welcoming in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail and follow-through. Confidence to appropriately direct and support front-of-house staff. Ability to handle sensitive or difficult member situations with professionalism and discretion. Strong teamwork and communication skills. Professional appearance and a polished, welcoming demeanor. Commitment to providing exceptional member and guest service. The Ideal Candidate You are someone who: Puts members first and understands the importance of personalized service. Leads by example and sets a positive tone for the team. Stays organized while managing reservations, seating, and multiple requests. Communicates clearly with members, guests, servers, bartenders, kitchen staff, and management. Anticipates needs and addresses potential issues before they affect the guest experience. Is confident and approachable when leading the dining room. Thrives in a team environment and enjoys supporting others during busy service. Schedule & Availability This position requires flexibility and availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as business needs require. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during service. Ability to move throughout the dining room and clubhouse as needed. Ability to assist with light lifting, carrying, and moving tables or chairs when necessary. Ability to work in a fast-paced restaurant environment for extended periods. Why Join Turner Hill?
