This is an nifty opportunity to join the nice Trumbull & Porter Boutique Hotel team in the Corktown area of Downtown Detroit! We are having our busiest year by far in 2026, and we keep getting busier so we want to add a fun personality that not only would enjoy talking to visitors coming to downtown Detroit to keep us the friendliest hotel, but also maintain our toxic-free and very chill environment into 2027 as we need more people at the desk at once. Looking for one full time or two part time. The front desk can be quite different during a shift - busy at times so you need to keep a relaxed one-at-a-time mentality and show our guests kindness, and there can be long times of inactivity where you need to always be ready to assist our guests but can relax. If the lobby is all clean and stocked with no guests to help, please do have a book, game or video handy to pass the time. We just ask that you are always ready to give kind and friendly service and take every opportunity to do so. We expect you to help us keep our reputation as the friendliest hotel in Detroit at all times, but also we do NOT tolerate guests being overly rude to our staff, that is a great example of what is not our vibe here at Trumbull and Porter. Find the fun in helping nice people, and find the humor in dealing with "the public"
THE STUFF WE PAY YOU FOR
This role is not a stand at attention and use insincere dialog to welcome guests job. We leave that for the stuffy hotel down the street. Here the motto is " Professional Kindness " You own the guest experience by being genuine and relaxed as you welcome people to this city at check in, or wish them safe travels on the way out. 99% of our guests are from out of town coming for something fun like a concert, game, show, etc. It really is fun to be a part of their journey and show them how great Detroit can be. Shifts like 3p-11p are very guest experience focused with a nice welcome, and the 7a-3p has quicker interactions at the desk where people are heading out from their Detroit extravaganza and you need to wish them all well and talk happy guests into leaving happy reviews. We hire personalities over experience because we want the right people to be part of this easy-going experience.
Your Guest Service Zone:
Ensure guests experience kind and welcoming service. Interactions with guests are done standing, but you can sit to work or chill when it is slow Have a genuine enjoyment of seeing people smile because you were nice to them. Anticipate guest needs and personalize it to surprise them with thoughtfulness. Manage VIP and high-profile guests, offering exclusive services. Maintain and ensure the quality of guest experiences at all times. Stay informed about hotel services, local attractions, and amenities to assist guests. (Or at least be able to fake it and Google it real fast)
Making Dreamwork:
Work closely with housekeeping, maintenance, restaurant, coffee shop, and other hotel departments to coordinate guest needs and support each other. Always look for ways to help the people around you getting through their shift. Ensure that special requests (e.g., room preferences, additional amenities) are communicated and fulfilled. Handle coordination of early/late check-ins and check-outs as necessary. Handle emergency situations such as guest safety concerns, overbookings, or system failures in a calm and efficient manner. Ensure proper safety and security measures are in place for guests and staff. Others will count on your arrival to work, so make sure you have reliable transportation and adhere to the strict attendance policy If you can tell someone has come in to sell something, pretend the GM isn't there
PREREQUISITES
Job history that does not show a lot of job hopping Reliable transportation to adhere to the attendance policy Being the kind of person who is nice to the server at a restaurant
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The position operates in a professional work environment inside of a hotel. Dress code is a Trumbull and Porter T-Shirt/hoodie and jeans/pants since we are an art boutique hotel so dressing up would seem pretentious.
WHAT WE WANT FOR YOU
If you drop us your resume and the GM wants to reach out, the first question will be what questions you have about the job. We have a very solid base of staff here at the front desk and it is important we know this job is the right fit for you as well. Likely this job is a stepping stone to greater things (along with a bill-payer), but we want people who will enjoy it and make the most out of it for a decent amount of time and use the experience. Hotel front desk gives you so many skills to use in the future as you have to be part guest service, part sales, part travel guide, part improv comic, etc. It does take a person who really does like the feeling of helping people and the knowledge to know even though most of the guests here are fantastic, some really do like being a baby in public and to brush it off. This is a hotel, not a hospital, we just sling beds, food and coffee so we try to just keep it relaxed here.
Pay:
$16.00 per hour
Benefits:
Flexible schedule Free parking Application Question(s): Do you have reliable transportation to work at our hotel in Downtown Detroit? Are there any times or days you will not be available on a weekly schedule?
