Job Description

We are a historic Bed & Breakfast based in beautiful Valle Crucis, NC. Our Inn provides a rustic, cozy atmosphere for our guests and locals alike, and has been run by families since it started as a business in the 1880s. That close-knit family feel is something we always strive to uphold with our staff. We are seeking a warm, professional, and dependable Front Desk Associate to join our team at a charming historic inn. The Front Desk Associate is often the first and last person our guests interact with, making this position an important part of creating a welcoming, memorable stay. The ideal candidate enjoys working with people, takes pride in providing thoughtful hospitality, and appreciates the unique character and history of a small inn. Weekend (Friday-Sunday) availability is required. Special Considerations for this

Responsibilities Welcome guests with genuine warmth and Southern hospitality Complete guest check-ins and check-outs accurately and efficiently Answer phones, emails, and guest inquiries in a professional manner Assist guests with reservations, directions, recommendations, and special requests Provide information about the inn, its amenities, policies, and surrounding area Handle guest payments and maintain accurate records Monitor reservations and communicate important guest information to the appropriate staff Respond promptly and professionally to guest concerns and requests Coordinate with housekeeping and maintenance to ensure rooms and common areas are guest-ready Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming front desk and lobby Assist with daily opening and closing procedures Help prepare and maintain common areas, porches, and guest spaces as needed Assist with special events, weddings, and other inn activities when necessary Respect and help preserve the historic character, furnishings, and traditions of the property Perform other duties as needed to support smooth inn operations Daily Responsibilities Review arrivals, departures, special requests, and notes at the beginning of each shift Check that the lobby and front desk are clean and welcoming Prepare keys, registration materials, and other items needed for arriving guests Check in arriving guests and assist departing guests Monitor and respond to phone calls, emails, and guest messages Communicate with housekeeping regarding room status and special needs Conduct regular checks of public areas throughout the shift Restock front desk and guest supplies as needed Document maintenance issues, guest concerns, and important shift information Complete end-of-shift paperwork and communicate relevant information to the next shift Qualifications Previous hotel, inn, restaurant, retail, or customer service experience preferred Strong communication and interpersonal skills Professional, friendly, and welcoming demeanor Excellent attention to detail Ability to remain calm and professional when handling guest concerns Comfortable using computers, email, reservation systems, and basic office equipment Ability to work independently and as part of a small team Dependable and punctual Ability to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts Ability to stand, walk, and perform light physical tasks throughout a shift The Ideal Candidate The ideal Front Desk Associate is someone who understands that hospitality is about the little things . You enjoy making guests feel at home, notice when something needs attention, and are willing to step in wherever needed. You should be comfortable working in a small, historic property where every team member plays an important role. A genuine appreciation for historic buildings, beautiful surroundings, and personalized guest service is a plus.
