Job Description

Position Summary The Assistant Manager supports the General Manager and hotel leadership team with the daily operation of the hotel, with a primary focus on Housekeeping operations, guest satisfaction, employee accountability, front desk coverage, and overall hotel standards. The Assistant Manager must have a working knowledge of hotel operations and be willing to step in wherever needed to ensure the hotel operates efficiently and guests receive a consistently positive experience. This position will complete tasks and projects assigned by the General Manager and Director of Sales and will provide support to the Banquet Captain as needed. Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesHousekeeping Operations Oversee and support the daily operations of the Housekeeping Department. Ensure guest rooms, public areas, meeting spaces, and other hotel areas meet established cleanliness and presentation standards. Assist with assigning and prioritizing housekeeping tasks. Monitor room cleanliness, room status, and completion of assigned work. Conduct room and public-area inspections and follow up on deficiencies. Work closely with the Front Desk and Housekeeping team to prioritize rooms and meet guest needs. Monitor housekeeping supplies, linens, amenities, and equipment. Assist with training, coaching, and accountability of Housekeeping staff. Address housekeeping-related guest concerns and ensure appropriate follow-up. Front Desk & Guest Service Ensure Front Desk coverage is maintained at all times and assist with finding appropriate coverage when staffing needs arise. Provide support to the Front Desk as needed, including check-ins, check-outs, guest requests, and general hotel operations. Monitor guest satisfaction and promptly address guest concerns or complaints. Follow up on guest issues to ensure concerns are resolved appropriately. Maintain a visible and approachable management presence throughout the hotel. Ensure guests receive professional, courteous, and timely service. Work with Front Desk and other departments to ensure guest requests and special accommodations are completed. Employee Accountability & Professional Standards Hold employees accountable for professional appearance, personal presentation, attendance, conduct, and customer service standards. Ensure staff members are following established hotel policies and procedures. Address performance or professionalism concerns promptly and communicate significant issues to the General Manager. Lead by example by maintaining a professional appearance, positive attitude, and strong work ethic. Assist with employee training, coaching, and development. Clearly communicate expectations and follow up to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed. Promote a professional, respectful, and team-oriented work environment. General Manager Support Complete projects, assignments, and operational tasks as directed by the General Manager. Assist the General Manager with daily hotel operations and special projects. Help monitor hotel standards, policies, safety procedures, and overall property condition. Assist with inspections, organization, inventory, and operational follow-through. Identify operational issues and communicate them to the General Manager. Step in to support other departments when operational needs require assistance. Director of Sales Support Complete assignments and projects provided by the Director of Sales. Assist with preparation and organization for meetings, conferences, events, and special programs as needed. Help ensure meeting and event spaces are clean, organized, and properly prepared. Assist with event-related tasks, including setup and breakdown, when requested. Support Sales and Catering operations with operational tasks that contribute to successful events. Banquet Support Provide support to the Banquet Captain as needed. Assist with meeting and banquet setup, service, and breakdown when requested. Help ensure banquet and meeting spaces are properly maintained and ready for guests. Assist with moving tables, chairs, equipment, supplies, and other event-related items as needed. Hotel Operations & Leadership Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of hotel operations and the responsibilities of each department. Understand how Front Desk, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Food & Beverage, Banquets, Sales, and other departments work together to provide a successful guest experience. Communicate effectively between departments to ensure operational needs are addressed. Monitor the overall condition and presentation of the hotel. Identify areas needing attention and take appropriate action. Assist with staffing challenges and operational coverage. Respond appropriately to emergencies, safety concerns, and other unexpected situations. Perform other duties as assigned by hotel management. Qualifications Previous hotel or hospitality experience required. Working knowledge of hotel operations and guest service standards. Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Strong customer service and communication skills. Comfortable holding employees accountable for appearance, professionalism, performance, and adherence to hotel standards. Strong attention to detail and ability to notice issues before they become guest concerns. Strong learner with the ability and willingness to learn hotel systems, procedures, and responsibilities across multiple departments. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or busy situations. Dependable, organized, proactive, and willing to take initiative. Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a management team. Flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull as needed. Ability to lift and carry up to approximately 50 pounds. Ability to assist with housekeeping duties, room inspections, event setup/breakdown, and other physical hotel operations. Ability to move throughout the hotel and respond promptly to operational needs. This person must be willing to step in, solve problems, support employees, and do what is necessary to keep the hotel running smoothly.
