Under the direction of the Principal or the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor, perform custodial services required to maintain assigned buildings and adjacent ground areas in a clean, orderly, and secure condition.
RECRUITMENT TYPE OPEN
- anyone may apply. Under Rule 5.200.1 of the Personnel Commission, th e District currently is opening up a recruitment for a pool of substitutes to cover for absent permanent employees . The eligibility list being established will be used to hire substitutes and fill future vacancies that may occur within one year. Substitute work is assigned on an on-call, as-needed basis. Typically a substitute Custodian will work between the hours of 6:00 am to 10:30 pm. Hours can vary from 4 to 8 hours per day. The District cannot guarantee work hours or workdays as a Substitute Custodian. The examination process will consist of supplemental questions within the application, a job-related written examination, and a qualification appraisal interview, followed by a selection interview for the candidates in the top three ranks. The classification specification does not describe all duties performed by all incumbents within the class. This summary provides examples of typical tasks performed in this classification. Sweep, mop, wax, and scrub floors; dust, wax, wash, and polish furniture and woodwork; maintain equipment supplies. E Empty and clean waste receptacles. E Wash windows and walls; clean restrooms; sweep sidewalks and pick up papers. E Clean drinking fountains; polish metal work; fill paper and soap dispensers; replace light bulbs; replenish custodial supplies. E Turn out lights and lock doors and windows; guard assigned areas to prevent vandalism. E Assist in moving, arranging, and setting up furniture and equipment for special events and meetings. E Assist with minor maintenance of building, facilities, and grounds including replacing outlet covers, pencil sharpeners, unclogging drains and removing leaves and grass as assigned. Operate according to a schedule prepared by the Supervisor. Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES KNOWLEDGE OF
Methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work.
ABILITY TO
Maintain schedules providing for regular cleaning of all facilities assigned. Carry out oral and written instructions. Work cooperatively with others. Operate equipment used in the cleaning of facilities. Perform simple and repetitive tasks.
Any combination equivalent to: completion of the eighth grade and some experience in public institutional custodial work is desirable.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
: Valid California driver's license as required by position.
WORKING CONDITIONS ENVIRONMENT
Indoor and outdoor environment. Regular exposure to fumes, dust, and odors. May work alone at night in areas where security is a factor. Subject to noise from equipment operation. Driving a vehicle to conduct work as required by the position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment. Pulling and pushing custodial equipment. Lifting and moving heavy objects and furniture weighing up to 50 pounds. Climbing ladders to replace lights. Standing and walking for extended periods of time. Bending at the waist. Perform heavy physical labor. Reaching overhead and horizontally to replace light bulbs and wash walls.
HAZARDS:
Contact with cleaning agents and chemicals. Bloodborne pathogens.
