The job of the Custodian is done for the purpose of maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe environment assuring the proper operation of all facilities. A Day in the Life Assists with opening the building in order for students and staff to begin the school day. Helps maintain cleanliness of the building including washing windows, picking up trash, cleaning bathrooms and drinking fountains, mopping floors when necessary. Repairs building and equipment as assigned to assure equipment is operational for students and staff. Sets up and replaces equipment as needed for daily activities such as lunch, as well as special activities such as evening programs. Provides crossing guard duties in order to ensure students, parents, and staff are able to cross the street safely. Helps receive deliveries and dispenses of equipment/supplies/furniture in their appropriate places. Assists with closing the building in order to ensure the building is secure and utility costs are minimized. Shovels, plows, and salts sidewalks and steps during inclement weather to ensure a safe environment. Assist with special projects such as putting together new furniture, painting walls, completing repairs, and doing major repairs, during summer months and at times when school is not in session. Moves furniture, equipment, and supplies for the purpose of re-locating classrooms. Supervises students as needed, in order to ensure safety. Maintains confidentiality as appropriate in order to comply with district, state and federal laws. Performs other duties as assigned in order to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe environment Profile of a Successful Candidate Ability to communicate effectively. Knowledge of standard cleaning chemicals is helpful. Has a high school diploma Is able to fulfill physical job duties of requiring 90% walking and 10% standing. Time is spent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality as required by the Board of Education policies and regulations. Must be regularly available and willing to work 40 hours per week, or such other hours as the district determines are necessary or desired.
