is a new, locally owned, hospitality venture opening The Village Lounge on Main Street in Margaretville, New York, this fall. Service Porter We're looking for a dependable and hardworking team member who takes pride in cleanliness, organization, and supporting the overall rhythm of service. This role is essential to maintaining the functionality, atmosphere, and operational standards of D F W and is ideal for someone who values consistency, teamwork, and being part of a respectful, community-oriented environment. This role is foundational to the success of the service. The attentiveness and consistency brought to this role directly shapes the ability of the entire team to function smoothly. While much of this work happens behind the scenes, it creates the conditions for great hospitality. We're looking for someone who understands the importance of their contribution and takes pride in creating a clean, organized, and well-run environment. The Porter is responsible for maintaining cleanliness throughout the kitchen and shared spaces, supporting dishwashing and sanitation standards, assisting with basic prep and stocking tasks, and helping ensure the team has what it needs to provide excellent service. Job Purpose:
Maintain a clean, sanitary, organized, and safe kitchen, service, and back-of-house environment. Support daily operations through dishwashing, cleaning, waste removal, restocking, and general kitchen support.
Status:
Part-time, afternoon, evenings, and weekend shifts Reports to: Owner Start date: September/October 2026 Duties and Responsibilities Including but not limited to: Cleaning, Sanitation & Dishwashing Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization throughout the kitchen, dish area, service areas, storage areas, and other assigned spaces. Wash, sanitize, dry, and properly store dishes, glassware, utensils, cookware, and service equipment. Clean and sanitize work surfaces, sinks, floors, walls, equipment, and high-touch areas according to established procedures. Sweep, mop, and address spills and other cleanliness or safety issues promptly. Complete opening, ongoing, and closing cleaning duties as assigned. Remove trash, recycling, and compost; keep waste areas clean and sanitary. Maintain cleaning supplies and notify the Owner when supplies need to be replenished. Follow all applicable food-safety, sanitation, chemical-handling, and workplace-safety procedures. Immediately report equipment problems, damage, pest concerns, unsafe conditions, or other issues requiring attention. Kitchen & Operational Support Keep dishes, tools, equipment, and service items clean, organized, accessible, and properly stored. Restock kitchen, service, and cleaning supplies as needed. Assist with receiving, organizing, and properly storing deliveries and supplies as directed. Support kitchen setup, service, resets, and closing procedures. Maintain awareness of services and proactively complete necessary cleaning, and supporting clearing tables as needed. Assist FOH and BOH team members with general operational tasks as assigned. Team & Workplace Standards Communicate clearly and respectfully with FOH and BOH team members. Work efficiently and independently while maintaining consistent standards of cleanliness and care. Follow established procedures and directions, and ask questions when expectations are unclear. Maintain a professional, respectful, and organized working environment. Take responsibility for assigned areas and complete tasks thoroughly rather than leaving unfinished work for the next shift. Required Qualifications Dependable, punctual, and responsible. Strong attention to cleanliness, sanitation, and organization. Willingness to learn, take direction, and follow food-safety and workplace-safety procedures. Clear communication and a respectful approach to teamwork. Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays as required. English fluency. Physical & Operational Requirements Ability to stand and move for extended periods Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50+ pounds as needed Ability to work in a kitchen environment with heat, water, cleaning products, and service equipment Ability to move efficiently through a busy workspace while maintaining awareness and safety Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining attention to detail Able to safely handle cleaning chemicals, hot water, dishes, cookware, trash, and other routine kitchen materials. Able to prioritize tasks and remain productive during busy service periods. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in restaurants, cafés, hospitality, cleaning, or other fast-paced service environments Interest in learning kitchen operations and food preparation Desire to grow within a hospitality team Compensation and Benefits Pay $18 - $22+/hr— includes guaranteed minimum hourly pay plus daily average tips.
