Performs maintenance and custodial services for library buildings, grounds, and equipment, including general building repairs, HVAC oversight, snow removal, and facility upkeep. Maintains library facilities in a clean, safe, orderly, and functional condition. Represents the Kingsville Public Library and its services in a positive manner and adheres to all customer service standards, policies, and procedures established by the Library.
SCHEDULE
Part-Time, approximately 12 hours per week; occasional weekend hours.
RATE OF PAY
$16.00 per hour
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Repair building fixtures, furniture, doors, windows, shelving, and study areas.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repairs.
Maintain indoor and outdoor areas, including parking lots, walkways, landscaping, and lighting.
Ensure heating, cooling, ventilation, and lighting systems operate efficiently.
Replace light bulbs, filters, batteries, and other consumable maintenance items.
Monitor and maintain fire safety systems, alarms, emergency exits, and extinguishers.
Coordinate with specialized contractors for major repairs and renovations.
Maintain cleanliness and safety of maintenance work areas.
Comply with all local building codes, safety regulations, and library policies.
Identify potential safety hazards and take corrective action.
Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and equipment servicing.
Assist with room setup, furniture relocation, and facility support for library programs and events.
Manage maintenance supplies, tools, and inventory as required.
Communicate with the Director regarding maintenance issues, repair needs, and emergency situations.
Perform routine inspections of library facilities, equipment, and building systems.
Monitor and maintain the library septic system.
Pick up supplies or make deliveries to outside organizations as needed.
Provide assistance to staff and visitors as necessary.
Perform work in accordance with established procedures and the building's operational schedule.
Perform custodial duties in the absence of the Custodian, including cleaning rooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, stairways, and windows.
Use brooms, mops, and floor equipment to sweep, mop, strip, and wax floors.
Use a vacuum and carpet cleaner to clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture and window coverings.
Dust furniture and equipment as needed
Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors and sills.
Make minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing repairs.
Perform touch up and finish painting.
Empty wastebaskets when needed
Replenish restroom supplies when needed
Set up and tear down chairs, tables and equipment in meeting and function rooms.
Prepare rooms for use by Library Board of Trustees and organizations.
Clear snow and ice from entrances, sidewalks, and walkways, including Saturdays when necessary, and perform seasonal landscape cleanup
Mow grass and maintain the property landscape that may involve mulching and other duties on a periodic basis
Maintain an organized inventory of maintenance supplies and tools stored in the maintenance shed.
Pick up and deliver supplies and materials to rooms and auxiliary buildings.
Collect recyclable materials and transport them to the Township recycling center.
Strip and wax patron restroom floors annually.
Clean interior and exterior library windows.
Clear clogged toilets and drains as needed.
Assist with the setup of Library-sponsored park events.
Move, assemble, repair, and rearrange furniture as directed.
Notify the Director of needed supplies, equipment, and maintenance materials.
Follow all applicable safety rules and procedures, and library policies.
Open and close library building according to security procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director in support of library operations and services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED equivalency and two years experience in building cleaning and maintenance work, including responsibility for mechanical equipment repair and maintenance.
A working knowledge of building plans, including basic utilities information.
Knowledge of building cleaning and facility maintenance work, troubleshooting and repairs at an intermediate level or above.
Excellent dexterity and skill in the proper use of tools and equipment.
Must be able to work evenings and weekends and during emergency events.
Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
Ability to train and supervise volunteers.
Demonstrated basic computer skills sufficient to submit timesheets, order supplies, and communicate electronically.
Ability to relate to officials, staff, and public in a courteous manner.
Must have dependable transportation and a valid Ohio Driver's license, or the ability to obtain one in accordance with state law.
Must successfully pass a background check.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to frequently walk, bend, push, pull, carry, reach, kneel, and climb ladders.
Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
Ability to safely operate maintenance, cleaning, and groundskeeping equipment.
