Job Overview Join our dedicated team as a Church Custodian at Sacred Heart Church, located in Polonia, WI. Position is responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of the interior of the parish church building, including the basement, choir loft, and rectory front and back porches. This includes cleaning and sanitizing, minor maintenance, and room setup for various events, meetings, and services. This position reports directly to the Pastor. No supervisory responsibilities are required. This is a 20 hours/week, twelve-month position. Core hours are Monday through Friday, 10:00 am-2:00 pm. Responsibilities Perform thorough cleaning of church facilities, including floors, pews, restrooms, hallways, and entryways using commercial cleaning equipment such as floor buffers and vacuums. Handle chemical agents safely during cleaning tasks, adhering strictly to chemical handling safety procedures to prevent accidents or contamination. Conduct routine janitorial duties like dusting, mopping, sweeping, window washing, and trash removal to maintain a spotless environment. Operate custodial equipment including floor buffers and other cleaning machinery to ensure floors are well-maintained and visually appealing through proper buffing and floor care techniques. Follow safety protocols diligently during all custodial activities, including lifting practices and manual handling procedures to prevent injuries. Support facilities maintenance efforts by reporting any structural issues or safety hazards promptly to ensure a secure environment for all visitors. Skills Proven experience in custodial work or janitorial services within commercial or religious settings. Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to respond with courtesy and diplomacy. Strong knowledge of cleaning techniques, sanitation standards, and commercial cleaning equipment operation. Ability to handle chemical agents safely while following proper chemical handling safety procedures. Skilled in manual handling with an emphasis on safe lifting practices when moving furniture or heavy cleaning supplies. Excellent customer service skills with a respectful attitude towards church staff and visitors. Possess good knowledge of the teachings and practices of the Catholic Church. Familiarity with floor buffing, floor care routines, and general facilities maintenance tasks.
