Must serve as a positive role model. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or illegal substance in the workplace in compliance with Policy 4122.01 throughout their employment in the District. The Superintendent reserves authority to assign additional duties and responsibilities as necessary within the scope of the position.
Position Summary:
This position proactively aligns with the District's mission, goals, strategic initiatives, continuous improvement plan and evolving priorities, in accordance with District policies and all applicable federal, state, and local laws. Responsible for efficiently cleaning and maintaining District facilities, including minor maintenance and room setups while promoting a positive, inspiring, respectful, and safe environment for all students and staff. While the core functions remain consistent for the Custodian Maintenance role, specific duties may differ based on the unique needs of each school building.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Fosters a sense of community and a positive, collaborative environment that promotes trust and respect among staff, students, families, and the District. Maintains effective, regular, good communication and collaboration with students, staff and visitors. Maintains high standards of conduct and safety with students and staff in accordance with District Board Policies and applicable federal, state and local laws, and established governmental regulations. Cleans classrooms, restrooms, offices, kitchens, cafeteria, storerooms, lobbies, hallways, vestibules and other areas of the building and exterior grounds following established routines, standards and procedures. Utilizes cleaning tools, hand tools, powered equipment, chemicals, and cleaning agents and technology to assist in the carrying out of job functions. Disposes of waste, recyclables and other items following established governmental regulations and District policy. Some waste may be hazardous (i.e. body fluids, chemicals, battery fluids, science lab wastes). Performs hard floor care including deep scrubbing, recoating, stripping, and applying finish; carpet care including spot cleaning and extraction and painting. Sets up and takes down furnishings and equipment for functions/events per Principal requests. Maintains entrances and immediate exterior area for cleanliness and safety, removing waste, snow, ice, leaves, etc. Responds immediately to safety or operational concerns (e.g. damage, alarms, etc.) for resolution and report appropriately. Performs general building maintenance, such as light bulb replacements, minor repairs, installation of dispensers, hanging pictures, etc. Maintains clean and organized custodial closets.
Secondary Functions and Responsibilities:
Performs any applicable building security functions including opening and securing buildings, offices and/or classrooms. Serves as back-up to other staff in their absence or as necessary. Participates in team meetings and other such meetings as are required or appropriate.
Qualifications, Education, Experience and Other Licensure Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Work experience in custodial/maintenance related field, preferably in a school setting. Valid Driver's License.

Stays informed regarding policies, events, students' needs, and other information related to job responsibilities. Flexibility in schedule may be required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
This role has frequent contact with students and members of the community. While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to engage in conversation and is required to utilize communication skills, such as speaking and listening. The employee is required to bend, kneel, stand and walk at regular and extended intervals throughout the workday. Ability to constantly lift up to 10 lbs; occasionally push and carry up to 70 lbs; and, occasionally lift 25 to 90 lbs. Capability to climb stairs or ladders. Exposure to body fluids, chemicals, battery fluids, science lab wastes. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus. Essential functions require a high level of concentration and attention to detail.
