The City of Louisville is seeking attentive and responsible Lifeguards to join our Aquatics team. This position offers the opportunity for year-round employment at our community pools, along with great perks and a supportive team environment. Shifts are available Monday through Friday, between 5:15 AM and 9:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday between 6:45 AM and 5 PM. This position offers a free monthly pass to the Louisville Recreation Center! Observe and patrol Aquatic areas. Enforce safety regulations in a professional, friendly manner. Maintain proper water safety discipline. Perform general pool maintenance. Other duties as assigned.
Education and Training:
Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification required. Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications are required. WSI certification is strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have knowledge of and be able to enforce safety regulations and perform lifesaving, first aid, and CPR techniques. Must have the ability to assist swimmers out of the water when necessary. Prevent accidents; remain calm in emergency situations. Exercise sound independent judgment in ambiguous situations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and facility guests.
Other Requirements:
Minimum age 15 years required. Successful candidates may be required to complete and pass any or all of the following: a pre-placement physical and/or a background investigation prior to employment. Physical Requirements of the
Job:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, in and out of the pool; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be in good physical condition to swim 500 meters and retrieve a 10 lb. brick from the bottom of the diving well.
Work Environment:
Indoor and outdoor pool environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
