Responsible for the overall safety and well being of those in the pool area.
Requirements/Qualification:
Must be 15 years of age or older. Current YMCA and / or Red Cross lifeguard certification required Current American Red Cross or American Heart CPR for the Professional Rescuer Interest, knowledge, skill, and enthusiasm in the area of aquatics. Ability to take direction and work well with people. Criminal Background Clearance Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness
Principle Activities:
Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck and surrounding areas. Prevent accidents by maintaining constant observation of the pool area, enforcing health and safety rules and maintaining emergency readiness. Respond to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Complete incident and accident reports as required. Maintain records of pool chemical readings. Take pool attendance and maintain related records as required. Perform opening and closing pool procedures. Know, understand, and obey all pool rules. Facilitate the pool schedule (i.e., put in or remove lane ropes, lobster, etc.) Perform routine cleaning of the pool and surrounding areas. Check pool and rescue equipment and promptly report any problems. Set up and store equipment for recreational swims and assist instructor with class set up. Maintain effective relationships with the members, participants and other staff. Never leave the pool area while guarding unless another certified guard is able to watch the pool for you. If not available, you must remove the swimmers from the pool. Guard the pool for your designated shift until your replacement arrives. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Assist with department special events. Convey basic information on YMCA programs and schedules to members. Support the programs and goals of the YMCA. Participate in YMCA special events as requested. Follow all YMCA's policies and procedures. Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled. Integrate Character Development values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility into program and interaction with participant and staff and be a role model with those values. Assume any other duties as assigned by the CEO or your supervisor.
