In the heart of the Duxbury headquarters lies a bleeding edge facility focused on producing the next generation of farmed shellfish. A fundamental part of the business, here technicians utilize ever-evolving techniques to maximize production capabilities and supply high quality, healthy seed to the ICSF farms and a long list of east coast shellfish growers. In order to continue increasing shellfish production, ICSF is seeking an experienced hatchery professional to take on management of day-to-day operations in our commercial shellfish hatchery. This role turns production plans into consistent daily execution—coordinating people, systems, schedules, and standards across the hatchery. The ideal candidate for this role is interested in having a significant and long term impact on shellfish production at the hatchery. ICSF is eager to have employees who are happy to take on the challenge of developing the hatchery to its fullest potential through novel ideas and continued research. Positioned as a full-time, salaried opportunity, this role includes a comprehensive benefits package and involves reporting to the Hatchery Manager. Annual compensation, based on the candidate's experience and qualifications, is offered between $60,000 and $120,000.

ROLE:

Lead daily hatchery operations across larval, settlement, post-set, broodstock, and supporting production systems. Translate production goals and direction from superiors into clear daily priorities, work plans, and staffing assignments. Supervise, train, schedule, and support hatchery staff, upholding accountability, consistency, and a strong team culture. Monitor shellfish health, growth, survival, water quality, feeding, stocking densities, and system performance; respond promptly to operational issues. Coordinate daily feeding, grading, transfering, spawning, larval culture, post-set work, cleaning, and maintenance activities as production requires. Ensure hatchery protocols, biosecurity practices, sanitation standards, safety procedures, and recordkeeping requirements are followed consistently. Maintain accurate operational records, including production data, mortality, inventories, water-quality data, treatments, and maintenance needs. Communicate daily production status, challenges, staffing needs, and recommended adjustments to the Hatchery Manager. Work closely with the algologist, technicians, and other production staff to align algae availability, shellfish demand, and system capacity. Identify operational bottlenecks and implement practical improvements to workflow, quality control, equipment use, and team performance. Help maintain a clean, organized, safe, and well-maintained hatchery facility.

QUALIFICATIONS

Significant experience working in a commercial shellfish hatchery, ideally across multiple phases of production. Demonstrated management or supervisory experience in a commercial production, aquaculture, or similar operational environment. Strong practical knowledge of shellfish biology, husbandry, water quality, feeding, sanitation, and biosecurity. Ability to organize a busy daily operation, prioritize effectively, and make sound decisions when conditions change. Comfortable leading a team, giving clear direction, coaching staff, and addressing performance issues constructively. Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping, with the ability to use production data to guide daily decisions while maintaining alignment with management intention. Ability to bend down, stand, kneel or climb ladders for extended periods of time Work in all conditions including heat, humidity, cold, etc. Flexibility of schedule including 8+ hour days, weekend shifts, and holiday coverage Valid driver's license and mode of transportation Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly

STRONG PREFERENCE

Direct commercial aquaculture hatchery management experience. Mechanical aptitude and experience coordinating equipment maintenance. A degree in aquaculture, marine science, biology, or a related field is preferred; substantial relevant commercial hatchery experience will be considered in its place.
