The Production Superintendent has overall accountability for directing and managing plant operations to meet all quality, safety, and customer requirements. This role works to ensure operations run in the most safe, cost-effective, and timely manner to increase profitability by performing the duties outlined below.
Essential Duties:
Works directly with Production Supervisors to plan and direct work activities for the plant floor, using people, machines, materials, information, and energy to make product in the most efficient and effective manner, ensuring company and customer needs are met. Tracks, analyzes, forecasts, and reports on budgets and goals. Oversees department operations and staffing to reach production deadlines. Reads and analyzes production schedules, assuring proper line balancing and labor needs to stay within company guidelines while assuring customer needs are met. Sets clearly defined goals and expectations, holding Production Supervisors and Associates responsible for attainment. Assists the Director of Quality and Regulatory Compliance in Food Defense and Company Contingency plans. Utilizes the Redzone platform daily to monitor real-time production performance, downtime, and OEE across all lines, taking timely action to resolve issues as they arise. Leads or oversees daily Redzone huddles with Production Supervisors to review prior-shift performance, downtime reasons, and action items. Holds Production Supervisors accountable for accurate and timely Redzone data entry, including downtime coding and reason tracking. Uses Redzone reporting and trend data to identify root causes of chronic downtime and drives continuous improvement initiatives. Follows Company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at all times. Follows 5S protocol and maintains familiarity with its definitions to maintain the work area. Participates in the development and implementation of production methods and procedures designed to enhance operations and improve production efficiencies and product quality. Leads, manages, and holds Production Supervisors and Associates accountable for their responsibilities. Investigates and resolves work-related conflicts and concerns, conferring as necessary with other management and supervisors to ensure resolution. Participates as an active member of the Corrective Action Teams. Follows 6S protocols and holds Supervisors and Associates responsible for following 6S protocols. Promotes Company core values and ensures core values are upheld by all direct and indirect reports. Enforces all company rules, regulations, and policies. Assumes the authority and responsibility of the Operations Manager to provide coverage in the event of the Operations Manager's absence. Responsible to report all, major or minor food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action. Promotes food safety and quality awareness throughout the organization. Performs or assists with other projects or duties as assigned.
Competencies:
To be successful in this position, the associate must: Be able to perform simple math and use percentages. Be able to follow printed instructions thoroughly. Be trained on and understand 6S practices. Be trained on Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions as required. Be trained on and follow all safety procedures and requirements. Physical Environment/Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The associate will frequently be required to stand for long periods of time and to occasionally sit, bend, or stoop to perform certain tasks. The associate will frequently be required to make coordinated hand and finger movements to grasp and manipulate objects. The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The associate must be able to wear personal PPE, including gloves, masks, etc., when required. The associate may obtain a forklift certification and may be required to perform forklift duties.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the associate is frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Associates in the plant may be exposed to raw ingredients and food allergens (milk, egg, peanut, tree nut, fish, shellfish, soy, wheat).
Work Hours:
This is a full-time position, with a generally set schedule (1st, 2nd or 3rd shift). However, the associate may be required to work overtime or work a flexible schedule based on operational need.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field, and at least five years of experience in production supervision.
