Job Description

Fishmonger City Fish Market - 3.5 Seattle, WA Job Details Full-time $26.01 - $31.33 an hour 9 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Parental leave Vision insurance Flexible schedule Paid sick time Qualifications Food production Customer communication Food processing Packing Packaging Food Handler Certification Full Job Description Fishmonger - Pike Place Market About the Job We're looking for a Fishmonger to join our team at Pike Place Market. This is a fun, fast-moving, hands-on job with a lot of customer interaction. You'll work with fresh seafood every day, help customers choose the right fish, prepare and package orders, keep the display looking great, and work alongside a team that takes pride in what we do. It's also important to know what you're signing up for. The days start early, you'll be on your feet, and the work can be cold, wet, messy, and physical. This isn't a quiet retail job. Pike Place Market gets busy, and we need people who enjoy that energy and are comfortable working hard. Experience working with seafood is a big plus. If you've worked in a fish market, seafood counter, restaurant, grocery seafood department, or seafood processing environment, we'd especially like to hear from you. If you don't have direct seafood experience but are comfortable with this type of environment and eager to learn, we're open to that too. What You'll Do Help customers choose seafood and answer questions about our products Clean, cut, fillet, portion, and prepare fish and shellfish Weigh, wrap, and package customer orders Keep our seafood displays stocked, fresh, and looking great Receive and handle fresh seafood deliveries Check product for freshness and quality throughout the day Keep knives, equipment, counters, coolers, and work areas clean and sanitary Follow proper food handling and safety procedures Help with stocking, inventory, setup, and cleanup Work with the rest of the team to keep things moving when the market gets busy Pitch in wherever needed—everyone helps out What We're Looking For Seafood experience is strongly preferred. We'd love to find someone who already knows their way around fish and shellfish and is comfortable handling, cleaning, cutting, and selling fresh seafood. Restaurant, butcher, grocery, food production, or other fresh-food experience can also be a good fit. More importantly, we're looking for someone who: Is friendly and genuinely enjoys talking with customers Is dependable and can show up on time for early morning shifts Is comfortable working in a cold, wet, and physical environment Can stay on their feet and keep moving for most of the shift Is comfortable handling whole fish and fresh seafood Works well when things get busy Takes cleanliness and food safety seriously Pays attention to quality and detail Works well as part of a team Is willing to learn and isn't afraid to jump in and help Knife skills and previous fish-cutting experience are a definite plus. What It's Like Working Here Working as a fishmonger at Pike Place Market isn't your typical retail job. You'll meet people from Seattle and all over the world, talk about seafood all day, work with a great product, and be part of one of the busiest and most recognizable markets around. There's a lot of energy and personality in the job, and being good with people is just as important as being good with fish. But it's real work. The mornings are early. The floor gets wet. Fish boxes are heavy. You'll get dirty. And when the market is busy, you'll be moving. If you like working with your hands, talking with people, learning about seafood, and being part of a hardworking team, this could be a great fit. Seafood experience is a big plus, but a great attitude, reliability, and being comfortable in this environment matter just as much.
