POSITION
School Bus Aide
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Full-Time, 9-Month Position
SALARY:
Level III Schedule 1 MPSD Pay Scale; Based on verified years of relevant work experience and district compensation guidelines.
WORK SCHEDULE
The selected candidate must be available to work assigned bus routes and schedules as determined by the Transportation Department. Work hours may include morning and afternoon routes and may vary based on student transportation needs, field trips, and other district requirements.

JOB SUMMARY
The Morehouse Parish School District is seeking a dependable, student-centered, and safety-conscious School Bus Aide to assist in providing safe, orderly, and efficient transportation services for students. The School Bus Aide supports the school bus driver by supervising students during transportation, assisting students with special needs as appropriate, and helping maintain a safe environment while students are boarding, riding, and exiting the bus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the bus driver in maintaining safe and orderly student behavior on the bus.
- Supervise students during loading, unloading, and transportation activities.
- Assist students with entering and exiting the bus safely.
- Provide support to students with disabilities or special transportation needs as outlined in student plans and district procedures.
- Monitor student conduct and report disciplinary concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Ensure students remain seated and follow established bus safety rules.
- Assist with emergency evacuation procedures and safety drills when required.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information in accordance with district policies and applicable laws.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, school personnel, and transportation staff.
- Assist the driver in identifying and reporting safety hazards, accidents, injuries, or behavioral concerns.
- Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
- Follow all district transportation policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor, Director of Operations, or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience working with children in an educational, childcare, transportation, or related setting preferred.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately during emergency situations.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and regular attendance.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ability to effectively supervise students in a transportation setting.
PHYCIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and assist students as needed.
- Ability to safely assist students entering and exiting the school bus.
- Ability to climb bus steps multiple times daily.
- Ability to lift, move, or assist with materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions during loading and unloading activities.
- Ability to perform duties requiring continuous observation and supervision of students.
REQUIRED PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all district hiring requirements, which may include criminal background checks and fingerprinting, drug screening, verification of employment eligibility, verification of education and work history, and any additional requirements established by MPSD and Louisiana law.
