Job Description

  • Temp Position 26/27 School Year Only
  • The Bus Aide will provide assistance to special education students during transportation to school Monday through Friday.
Qualifications:

High School Diploma/equivalent required. Be deemed Highly Qualified per NCLB Requirements. To be highly qualified you must meet one of the following requirements: AA degree, 72 approved quarter credits or passing score on Para Pro assessment.

Valid first aid and CPR card desired.

Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices.

Physical stamina as required to keep pace with young children of various abilities.

Strong writing abilities, demonstrating competency in standard English format and conventions.

Possess skills able to fulfill listed job description.

The successful candidate shall:

Provide appropriate assessment of student needs and respond accordingly

Implement appropriate behavioral strategies for student in conjunction with bus driver and Special Education Teacher

Assist student with goals and objectives that facilitate student growth.

Maintain proper records and facilitate the necessary paperwork and forms as required by law and district policy under bus driver and teacher direction.

Be flexible to the demands of the position and work closely with bus driver and teacher in assisting the needs of child..

Work with student in a calm, caring, enthusiastic, supportive, and consistent manner.

Adhere to and maintain confidentiality in accordance with the law and District policy.

Communicate effectively with children, staff and parents of children regarding any support needed.

Help meet the physical and emotional needs of student.

Help support student's and other students' behavioral and emotional needs.

Maintain a positive attitude.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Mobility:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-26 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm.

Sense:

The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Lifting:

The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
