We aim to inspire connections that enrich healthy lifestyles, minds, and the environment. The Highland Recreation Complex is seeking an energetic and motivating instructor to lead our 8-10 week Couch to 5K program, designed to help beginner runners gradually build endurance, confidence, and consistency in preparation for our annual Shamrock N' Run event. The ideal candidate has experience working with diverse fitness levels, providing encouragement and instruction in a safe, supportive, and engaging group environment. Instructor pay is 70% per paid registrant and will vary based on number of particiapnts. This is a 1099 contracted position with the City of Largo.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities may include: Planning and leading weekly group runs and walk/run interval sessions Providing guidance on proper warm-up, cool-down, stretching, and running form Encouraging participants and tracking progress toward 5K readiness Offering basic education on goal-setting, pacing, and hydration Maintaining participant safety and motivation throughout the program Communicating schedule updates and session details with participants Promoting a positive, inclusive, and fun atmosphere for all runners
Insurance Requirement:
No insurance is required unless you are operating under a business name.
Skills:
Experience leading or coaching group fitness, running, or wellness programs Strong communication and motivational skills to engage beginner participants Ability to foster group interaction and build a sense of community among participants Knowledge of running fundamentals, including pacing, form, injury prevention, and stretching Ability to adapt workouts for varying fitness levels and encourage progress at an individual pace Organizational skills for scheduling, tracking attendance, and communicating updates This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to earn additional income on the side.
