After-School Sports Camp Counselor

Job Description

After-School Camp Counselor Position Please note: all application questions and the skills test must be completed for a candidate to be considered. Legacy is looking for energetic, friendly, and dependable people to help bring our after-school sports program to hundreds of children in the Oak Park, River Forest, and Riverside Area. Our camp counselors lead after-school youth sports programs at our partnering elementary schools and community organizations.•Activities consist of multisport and gym games, including soccer, kickball, variations of tag, floor hockey, dodgeball, and capture the flag. Staff members will learn our curriculum of games through paid training. Group sizes range from eight to 18 children. Each location has at least two staff members assigned, dependent upon registration numbers. Camps are grouped by grade level, and the age range of all of our students is from 5-12 years old. Position Duties and Expectations Provide a safe, positive, fun, and welcoming environment for children and staff Correspond politely and professionally with parents regarding updates, attendance, changes, behavior, etc. Be punctual and report on time to assigned location before or as soon as the scheduled shift begins. This is vital since staff members will be responsible for a group of children. Work cooperatively with a partner staff member Keep children engaged and active while modeling the same expectations Qualifications and Experience Requirements Please note that the Indeed skills test and all application questions must be completed for a candidate to be considered. Must be at least 18 years old and able to pass a background/fingerprinting check Must have access to a reliable vehicle/transportation Must be able to work weekday shifts starting between 2:15 and 3:00 pm. Shifts are approximately 1.5 hours. Candidates must be available to work 3-5 weekdays each week beginning as soon as possible. ( Must be available
WEDNESDAYS
) Additional hours, for those interested, may be available during weekend and evening programs. Experience working with children in a paid or volunteer setting is required Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to command a room Must be exceptionally friendly and outgoing Must be patient with and kind to children Must have an interest in sports, physical health/wellness, and being active. Experience coaching, teaching, playing, or refereeing sports is required. This can include paid or volunteer work or having been part of a team (in high school, college, or recreationally). Must be comfortable joining in games and modeling enthusiasm Location Staff members will be assigned to a partnering elementary school location in River Forest, Oak Park, or Riverside, dependent upon registration numbers and staffing needs. Hourly Wage $25/hr and paid training at same wage. For those seeking additional hours, applicants may also be eligible for positions within our other sports programs (dependent on experience). Our after-school youth sports programs are located at our partnering elementary schools in Oak Park, River Forest, La Grange, and Riverside. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to any of these school locations and arrive as early as 2:15 pm for approximately 90-minute shifts. Please indicate your current location AND estimated length of commute to these school districts on each end: Oak Park AND La Grange.
