RECREATIONAL SPORTS
(BL-RECS-IUBLA) Department Information The Office of Student Life is focused on building a strong foundation to ensure every student's Indiana University (IU) experience is positive, safe, healthy, and meaningful. The Office of Student Life staff and multiple departments aim to help students navigate their time at IU, providing the tools they need to be successful in school and after graduation. Recreational Sports is part of the Office of Student Life, which is dedicated to supporting students¿ health, safety, and success throughout their IU experience. The Recreational Sports mission is to connect, inform, and inspire individuals to lead active, healthy lifestyles. Serving over 36,000 students, faculty, staff, and community members annually, we offer a variety of programs across 2 multipurpose facilities, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, adventure spaces, and more. Job Summary This position offers hands-on experience in communication, time management, conflict resolution, and teamwork skills that are transferable to any future career. Department-Specific Responsibilities Provides excellent customer service and support participants throughout their visit to Recreational Sports facilities. Greets participants and staff professionally while managing equipment check-out and verifying facility access at the Welcome Center. Supports cleanliness and organization by laundering towels and uniforms for intramural and club sports programs. Supports daily operations at the Welcome Center and Equipment Checkout, including customer service, equipment check-in/check-out, and receiving and organizing equipment and promotional items. Collaborates with other departments to ensure high-quality service and foster positive relationships. Promotes a safe and welcoming environment by communicating and enforcing facility policies. Maintains awareness of job expectations by attending team meetings, completing required training, and staying current through email and internal communications. Active participation in the RecSports community Dedication to fostering a positive and respectful atmosphere for all. Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required General knowledge at the high school level Preferred Some college SKILLS Required Effective communication skills with the ability to engage a wide range of individuals Excellent interpersonal skills and a customer-focused attitude Ability to collaborate and contribute in a team-oriented environment Service-oriented and dependable Willingness to take on new challenges Strong organizational and time management skills Create a safe and engaging environment that supports the health and well-being of all participants Working Conditions / Demands This position requires frequently moving about the workspace. Positions require working both indoors and outdoors and ability to move up to 50 pounds with assistance. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation. Additional Information This position is work-study eligible. Onsite work will take place at the following campus recreation facilities, depending on the needs of each sporting event: Student Recreational Sports Center (SRSC) Bill Garrett Fieldhouse Advertised Salary $12.00 per hour Work Hours 8-12 hours per week, with flexibility based on availability. Early morning, evening and weekend shifts may be required. No position should exceed 29 hours per week across all campus positions.
